Slightly off topic but does anyone remember the scuffed Vassell shot at Sunderland which trickled in. Tremendous stuff!

Re: Sunderland away in 2008, roblues and I were at that game. Hilarious that our other goal was scored from a penalty won by a blatant dive by Sturridge.

Blackburn away the season they won the league. Think we won 3-2. Listening on the wireless. Ran round the kitchen when we got the winner.

3-3 at Walsall when Nigel Gleghorn went in nets.

4-2 at Bradford, first away win in years.

1-0 v red dippers when Clive Wilson scored with what felt like our only shot in 90 minutes.

Good topic.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

One of my favourites was a 3 2 over Middlesbrough in 82 ish. They turned up in united kits which added to the atmosphere ☺ Nicky Reid and steve (?) Hodgson got sent off for wanting to rip each others heads off.

Happy Days

The 10 - 1 even if in the away end.

Stoke away Boxing day late eighties. We lost but the atmosphere inside and outside the ground was amazing.

Two 3 nillers for me.

First against Stroke in 2008 when Robinho scored a hat trick, there was a real buzz around the ground and it felt like we were on the verge of witnessing something special.

Second against Liverpool on New Years Day 2012, the game itself wasn't great but the feeling leaving the ground having stuffed them was brilliant.

The 1-0 against Chelsea in 2004, Anelka penalty, that gave me a great sense of smugness, fleeting mind you but great nonetheless.

Shauny's return at Sunderland. I LOVED seeing him back in sky blue and to see him score a brace & us to win 3.0. That day was special.

Also, our 1-0 win v.Arse in 2006 when Barton scored from the spot. That was the first time I saw us win at Eastlands

Good memories

1-0 away win against Wrexham back in the real 3rd division (Wiekens); went with my Wrexham supporting mate and it was freezing, then next game I think, home to Stoke, when the team finally clicked into gear.

Also first game that season, home to Blackpool in the August sun. Maine Road was full, and I was so proud of our fans. An Oldham supporter in the pub bet me £10 that our average crowd would be below 20,000. He paid up in January,

Nosworthy would surely have killed Studge had he not taken evasive action. Top day out!

On my 14th birthday (March '99) I got home from school and my dad told me to get ready to go out again - he had tickets for our Division 2 game at Turf Moor. My early years saw some great games (5-2 Spurs, 2-1 Newcastle, 2-1 Liverpool) before the '96 relegation, then there was some absolute shite for a few years, and this was probably the first time I can remember properly appreciating us playing great football. A Goat hat-trick and a rare Allsopp goal were part of the 6-0 thrashing, and was the first of two games at Turf Moor where I saw us score six (the other being the one when we were 4 up in about 12 minutes, and I was shitting it that it would be abandoned at half time as it pissed down so hard).

Some good memories from some of those games already mentioned. I by no means manage to get to anything like as many games nowadays but I was at the 10-1 v Huddersfield which ranks up there for obvious reasons. The 4-1 fa cup win at Ipswich, an afternoon on it followed by a cracking performance considering Ipswich were a top flight team at the time and Keegans attack minded approach saw us destroy them. Going back to the 10-1 v Hudders I also enjoyed a 3-0 away win in an FA cup replay that same season against them - in the pouring rain on a cold winters night in the terracing behind the goal with no roof to protect us from the elements - but a great atmosphere.

Both those victories referred to earlier in the thread at Norwich, the 3-2 when delia did her thing and Fowler scored a belter (not) to seal it at the death and the 6-1 were both games I was lucky enough to attend - our supporters were phenomenal in both. In recent times its also worth not forgetting the 4-3 at Norwich when edin put us 2 up in the first 5 mins or so, nasri got sent off and second half goals from Sergio and an own goal after edin's shot came back off the post and in off the keeper were just enough to see us over the line.

For me though I think the perfect performance was the 5-1 win at Spurs in our title winning season under mancini. Sadly it was somewhat overshadowed by the rags 8 goal dismantling of Arsenal later that day, but I'm certain our performance was of higher all round quality. Edin hit 4 and Sergio got a cracker on his left foot holding off dawson, retaining his balance and hitting an unstoppable shot on his left foot high into the net at the near post. Edin's 4th and our 5th was a fitting way to end the scoring.

What I liked most about that performance was the way we played as a team. We were 100% joined up as a team from the first to the last whistle, in possession we were a slick unit looking like we would score in every attack, out of possession we worked our bollocks off to get behind the ball into a good defensive shape to break up play - Nasri and Silva protected our fullbacks so well, their energy and desire was exceptional. I look at that performance and compare it to current performances particularly when out of possession.

Much is made of our fragile defence, to me it's as much about our midfield than anything. Fernandihno has been top notch but he's also been isolated - Yaya not putting in a shift and our 3 advanced midfielders appear not to be that keen on tracking back. That game at spurs we played 442 - Silva and nasri as wide men (although narrow wide men) they knew their roles well enough when providing cover to the full backs, maybe the way we play with 3 more advanced midfielder clouds levels of responsibility in this repsect, I don't know, what I do know is that by comparison we don't seem to have the same desire out of possession right now as we did in that game at Spurs.

To be fair Nasri never offered the same level of protection as the season wore on.

Both good shouts. The game before shauny returned is a fav of mine too. Can't remember who we played but it was another 3-0, with a quote from the commentator always sticking out "is this the holy trinity for Manchester city, Ireland, elano and corluka"

Sure enough corluka was gone within weeks haha
Tracking back is overrated.

Lots of great games mentioned in this thread!

The 2-0 away win at West Ham in Sven's first game was brilliant. We'd signed lots of new players and scored 2 fantastic goals (including an incredible full length pitch run from Onohua). Atmosphere was electric in the away end and everyone was chanting 'City are back' as we walked out of the ground after the match.

To me, that's still the match where our fortunes turned. Although Sven's season didn't end as well as it started, it was was Thaksin's takeover and connections that led us to the Sheikh.
