I don't think we had much choice mate. The guy obviously wanted to go where the money was. I was outside the main entrance after a match about a month before he went and a kid asked him if he was signing a new contract, twice, and he just ignored the lad. Not even a 'we'll see'. Just ignored him. Fuck him! He's playing for Liverpool now so whose had the last laugh?

I remember him leaving and we went on to have a striker injury crisis. I remember thinking he would have had his opportunity if he had stayed.

Coming through the academy he had some outstanding performances for the England youth team.

Our family was very excited to have a home grown, potentially world class talent, coming through the club.

Whatever happened I'm not sure? He is still a top player when he is fit. ATM I don't hold any resentment towards him, I would be disappointed if he went to the rags though.

I read an article a few weeks ago that the official Exorcists that are left in Spain are being abolished.

Either work dried up or Max Von Sydow fucked it up for everybody.

I don't get the whole hatred in the ground towards him. Yes he left, so what. All these years later and he gets bitter abuse. I have never sang about him being a greedy bastard and don't intend to.

I think it makes us look as classless as the twats we call classless.

Apparently, his signature celebration is an interpretive dance pertaining to The Exodus, when Moses led the enslaved Israelites out of Egypt.

Wasn't Ched Evans getting the nod ahead of him at the time he decided to go to Chelsea?

He ( his agent and was that his father?) was after crazy money for a teenager who had hardly played first team games. We wouldn't go close enough to the demands so he left.

That's how I remember it too. He wanted something like £80k, same as our top seniors were on at the time. Club were right to let him go in that case, albeit probably reluctantly. Undoubted talent, pity about his injuries.

I wouldn't mind any eccentricities, who gives a toss, different strokes and all that.

Agree with WW about us slagging him off makes us look classless. Can understand the resentment about him rejecting us but still..

So was bojinov and it happened about as often too:)

Bojinov was nothing compared to Sturridge dude....Nacho is the closest thing we've had yet. i think Nacho can be just as good. And that says a lot actually i believe.

A fit Sturridge would be fighting right now in his prime to be the best striker in England, which says a lot considering the plethora of goal scorers we've got in the league now. It's quite amazing actually. It's no wonder defending is shite all around. Some fantastically clever fucking players attacking the goal when you sit back and think about it. Makes you realize why a team would think "fuck it lads...don't even cross the halfway line if you don't have to...let's park it right here."

cheers

He took the ball of Elano for a pen, curler rated on his own, from that moment he acted like a twat. Good player shit attitude.

If he could get his fitness and attitude sorted he would make a better strike partner for Sergio than Bony. Plus he is club trained. A big "IF" though!

Crazy as its seems I read an article years ago that disclosed that a fair few players have admitted to not liking the game much...they had the talent, but no feel for the game outside of playing or training. A fair few id imagine fall out oflove with it and see it as a means to an end....but...they still get on with the job...sturridge may be one of those who cant handle the mental pressure, who knows

Benoît Assou-Ekotto is one who admitted it when playing at the top of his game
