Odd.

It's what you insinuated.

Forget insinuation. I'm very clear on where I stand on this subject and always have been.
I'm not a fucking idiot. I know what I see and I say it as such. There is too much coincidence for 35 stone wall penalties to have been "missed" by the referee since the beginning of last season.
There is clear bias and possible corruption.
Now while you keep hopping from one side of the argument to the other, my feet are firmly on the ground.
I'm an adult and I know that there is no such thing as santa and that the emperor has his bollox out.
It's quite simple really

They know that when they admit to reality, a piece of magic is taken away.

Respect. I don't think one has to not believe in the possibility of corruption, but possibility does not necessarily translate into reality. People are biased, and often want to look at data or perceived data collected, as fitting one's world view.
I am not one who believes it is completely implausible that the refs are as corrupt as some are claiming, but I am not yet convinced, even as maddening as these poor decisions have been this season, in particular.
I believe a good portion of the English media hates us, yet Sherwood and the MOTD folks were up in arms about the decision. However, they also compared it to other bad decisions that have been made in games not involving us this season (including cards given or not in the Arsenal v. Leicester match) often coming following complaints by players. Their point that there is a problem with referring in the Premier League right now, in general, given the access to replays and technology today, and amounts of money at stake now for clubs. We happen to have been on the bad end of things and it COULD be due to corruption, but I am sorry, these events are not quite enough evidence to convince.
Comparisons to other clubs' experiences with such decisions has to be shown to start. One season is not enough data either. Looking just at our results is not sufficient, and trust me I want to believe it is corruption because it helps to make sense of things. England is not Italy culturally and corruption is, as I have understood, to be less tolerated than Berlusconi-land. Attitudes about diving in football that differ are a good example of cultural value differences around what some consider gamesmanship and others cheating.

Great post. Pretty much sums up how I feel too.

Interesting read. The common denominator in that is Clattenburg, unsurprisingly. The stats for Mike Dean and Arsenal also stand out. Yet there is no bias from referees?
