the paper rumors about Geronimo are al over the place.

we're buying but then loaning to Real Sociedad with an obligation to buy for 7m but City have buyback for 14m.
wtf? just buy and loan. its as if we're paying them to develop him for a year for us. who at RS has naked pics of Txiki?
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

Atletico have a good record with CBs (almost as good as they have with strikers).

Why is everyone convinced were playing with three at the back? Admittedly I wasn't riding Peps jock at Bayern to know his tactical usage of 3 defenders but he certainly didn't do that at Barca.

Did I miss the memo?

Actually, he might even go with 2 at the back. I can see why then we don't seem to be in for any real starting full backs and we don't need to sell Zaba or Kolarov other than for financial reasons. Those two may just be backups to a crowded number of back line players for only 2 position, and Pep may rather them be ball playing centre halves which the article also discusses:

How does the pyramid 2-3-5 work?

The first question which comes to anyone who hears about the 2-3-5 is that how can a team play with emphasis merely on attacking and having just two men at the back? This is how they are set up;

So the last defensive line of two defenders comprises generally of Boateng and Benatia/Martinez, but Pep deployed Rafinha or even Alaba during times of injury crisis wherein he ran out of centre-back options. The defenders are the first attackers in Pep’s dictionary as they initiate attacks by playing the ball out from the back and thereby get past the first defensive line of the opposition. How Guardiola’s team plays out from the back largely depends on the opposition’s approach without the ball. If the opposition have crowded the final third, then a direct diagonal ball to the wingers from the centre-back has been a viable option while if the pressure is relatively lesser, then the full-backs who are in central midfield are utilized to build play.

There aren't that many full backs of high quality available anyway in the market. He'd probably rather they be midfielders who are good with the ball in order for his tactics to be effective.

Yep. If true then we accept the money. But surely Turkish football doesnt have that kind of money?

I think they do, at least Besiktas. Vodafone put a lot of money in their new stadium, called ... Vodafone Arena. I think they can affort it. Reports are that Mario Gomez is getting about 7 mil euros per year there. They will offer it in installments I am sure if they really want Vinnie. The price is great after his last two seasons.

But

Istanbul is a sinking ship sadly. Many footballers are leaving after the recent events.

I believe he wouldn't get a WP to play in England now, so if the stories are true, it would absolutely be like we are paying them for him to get a year or two of game time in Europe under his belt and perhaps some caps so he can qualify for a WP in a couple of years, at which point we can buy him back hopefully as a top notch keeper aged 26/27.

Does sound like a lot of fucking about, but I suppose it removes the risk from us as if it didn't work out it will have cost us 3m - wheras it would have cost more than that in wages over a couple of years to have a player join us and not work out.

We might see a lot of this in the future, it might suggest we finally have a 3-5 year transfer strategy

Tough sentimentally obvs but transaction wise you'd be stupid not to chomp their hands off of the rumour was true. Which I'm tres skeptical of.

Vinnie is an amazing human being. And was a top 5 CB in the world for at least 3 seasons. Past it or not? I know what a dispassionate world class manager would want done.

Cheers

Chelsea supposed to have agreed a fee for Kante. A player we should be after.

Not good enough with the ball nor creative enough to be a Pep player.

Agreed. It also seems that we are trying to show to be not as desperate as last summer, for example, to ship out players on loan too under their market values to clubs trying to take advantage.

Hence why we may be seeing, Yaya and Zaba, or maybe even Kolarov stay.

i bet we've got a goalie and Stones next in the next week. Prollee Ter Stegen so that we can fulfill Herb's every wish and fuck off Joe Hart.

Exciting times yo.

Which Bundesliga fanboy wants to tell us all about Sane...In-Sane in the membrane....etc.

cheers

Relatedly, Schalke have just come out denying that the deal has progressed.

I would nearly bet my left nut that this is about a loyalty bonus and everyone is happy bar Schalke trying to force Sane to "formally" say he wants to leave so they can fuck off that bonus money. It's always such a joke at this level...negotiate the best deal and move the fuck on everyone.

Nah we won't buy Ter Stegen. Barca have told him he'll be #1 all season. No reason for him to move.
