Fucking pray. How has this club got itself in the shit with so many bad buys? Couldn't any gnarled old football scout with a cup of Bovril and a beige car coat look at Bravo for 5 minutes and tell you he will never make a prem goalie as long as he's got.....

I'm not embarrassed. Once FFP is all but dead, or at least covered, I don't give a shit, let alone get emotional.

Saying that, the guy has a lot to prove and is definitely nowhere near good enough on merit so far to be mentioned in the same sentence as Soriano.
In fact, it's because Soriano is doing such an unbelievable job that Txiki's blunders aren't the end of the world.

True, although it's not as bad under Txiki's watch. Our wage bill was higher in 2012 than it is now.

I'm not arsed about the fees tbh and I'd rather we blew £800m on some real quality than some of the dross on there. Not all of them are bad buys (Sagna and Lampard were quite shrewd ones, while Demichelis was an obvious Pellegrini signing), but the lack of quality players that have unquestionably improved our team since Txiki's arrival is telling. In fact, I can count them on two fingers. Appalling.

Fernandinho?
Gundogan?
DeBruyne?
Sterling???

It's difficult to get top drawer when you're actively trying to reduce your wage bill to fall in line with FFP.

I'm not excusing some of the balls ups but some context is needed too.

Fernandinho and De Bruyne. Embrace the truth.

Yes, Sterling is a good player, but did he improve us? Gündoğan I like too, but the transfer was a huge gamble that already backfired somewhat predictably. Fernandinho and De Bruyne are head and shoulders above anyone else on the list. Although I will admit that it might be slightly harsh to judge this summer's buys already, especially the young ones.

Otamendi, Mangala, Bony. These are even more shocking if FFP is taken into account!

Look at it another way mate, there's only a handful that we fucked up on.

Just my take mate but I think wages need to be considered more, you can only buy the best if you offer them top wages, that's why we could buy so well in Mancini's tenure, we were blowing everyone else in the PL out of the water with our wages. Since FFP took hold we're back competing on a level playing field with the likes of Chelsea and the rags so not as easy to bring in top drawer.

Totally agree. That list of players demonstrates why we have regressed so far. It would be difficult for a fan to make as many bad signings as that. It's not easily fixed either given the length of contracts they get.

We have many deficiencies in our squad, but I would not trust Txiki to spend another penny. Even if we are secure financially, we cannot continue to waste so much.
