He is a strong inteligent Central midfielder who is known more as a box to box type player.

He wont walk back into the first 11, but he certainly can have a big role to play at some point. The squad has moved on from missing him, it will be up to him to come back and prove he still has it.

Good game reading, good running engine, nice passing, can tackle and can hit a good long range shot.

Does that help u mate?

He played about 20 good games for us, at the end of Pearce's era and at the beginining of Sven's.

He seemed to have a lot of talent, could tackle, box-to-box running, good movement, good shot, clever passing.

He struck up an amazing partnership with Elano in the centre of midfeld and their one-two passing was a joy to watch.

People inside the game seem to rate him highly, he seems to come with a lot of baggage though and there's lots of rumours about him.

Personally, I think City might have outgrown the lad and he will move on in a year's time.

if he gets back to his best form. he'll play a big part in things around here. i still believe johnno has the potential to be the new colin bell. fingers crossed he's finally putting his injury problems behind him.

Personally I don't see any comparison between Johnno & Bell apart from looking physically similar from a distance. What Johnno could be, imo, is every single bit as good as Gareth Barry, IF he stays fit/off the booze.

No comparison with Bell whatsoever. I wish him well but fear we will never see what his potential promised. I can see him being moved on if he gets anywhere near fit.

Be surprised if we see him again tbh. He's been 'nearly there' for about a year. Our patience is because we gave him a nice new contract, probably on the advice of the now-sacked medical team. Our only hope is to get him fit enough to pass a medical at Aston Villa for 10M.

As I recall we turned down a bid of about 8 million for Johnson season before last so the club must feel that he would recover from injury problems and play a part in our future. Although I realise this was prior to Hughes.

I would go along with him being more like GF than Bell. Potentially much better than GF though. It would be like signing a £20 million player if he regains full fitness and I feel sure he would then be a real playing member of the squad and not just a fill in.

Johnson is probably citys most overrated player of the last few years, slightly above average player with a poor attitude(which actually equals useless player). Barton has been a better footballer for us than johnson....

Wow, never before has anyone managed to nail down what I consider a perfect post.

That's such a complete load of bollocks I wonder if you are taking lessons, I can only put this down to a fishing expedition because I know someone who is a slightly above average poster with a poor attitude like yourself could not keep a straight face posting that.

He looked impressive in his 45 mins in the first South African friendly, confident on the ball and with a good touch - the midfield wasn't quite the same when he went off at half time (but there were an awful lot of other subs at the same time though). I hope he gets his full fitness back, Im sure we will see him at some point during the season if so.

According to a report(Daily Rag) he is injured again, anyone have any further?

Obviously he hasn't been seen at training so this was always the assumption, just hope it's a minor issue if true, lord knows he's had enough already...

Last I heard he'd stopped making progress, hit a wall so to speak, and the coaches were disappointed in lack of progress, making a summer sale likely. Then he disappeared from the squad again so must be injured again.

He was on the bench a couple of weeks ago, the Villa FA match. So he was deemed ready by Mancio and I remember a lot on this forum were disappointed that Mancio didn't give him at least 10 minutes (Jo was brought on instead).
So did he get an injury while sitting on the bench, a rash maybe ??

Personally think he has missed too much football to ever make it at a top club.
Obviously basing that solely on my own speculation but nearly three years out the game at such an important age as a player cannot have a good impact on your game.
And has the injury had any long term physical effects?
Hope I am wrong but as some have said previously, I think we have outgrown him in this time.
