Sky Sports News understands AC Milan's Mathieu Flamini is set to move to Manchester City in a loan deal until the end of the season.

Roberto Mancini is to raid Italy for a second time since taking over at Eastlands, with an approach for Flamini at the top of his agenda.

Flamini usually operates as a defensive central midfielder, a position City have plenty of cover for having brought in Patrick Vieira from Inter Milan earlier this month.

It is, though, at right-back that Flamini has played his best football at Milan having been switched there in the second half of last season due to a spate of injuries at the San Siro.

Flamini has fallen down the pecking order at Milan this term under Leonardo and moves to England in a bid for more regular football.

He should have little trouble adapting to the Premier League having enjoyed a four-year stint at Arsenal from 2004-2008.

Flamini made over 100 appearances under Arsene Wenger and in his final season at the Emirates, prior to his move to Milan, established himself as a key player.

it might be on the site, but its gone from the live television transfer news

It's still on the net was the top story until the rumoured Hammers take over pushed it off about 10 minutes ago

not sure why it's not on the transfer talk section of SSN ..... then again it's not in the papers and SSN seem to think it's a done deal

This definitely fits into my theory about Mancini having no money to spend this window good signing though.

i just can't believe given the huge backing hughes had, the owners wouldn't back mancini with money if he needed it. I just think he's hesitant to sign players on huge long contracts until he's fully got the measure of the current crop we have here.

I think he's come here on the understanding that he can get more out of these players, achieve top 4 and earn a transfer kitty next summer.
He's had loads of opportnities to say "we need to stregthen here here or here" and hasn't.

love flamini as a player but not sure its what we need, we already have barry, ndj Vieira and ireland for cm. I know he can do a job fullback but id prefer a specialist fullback, in saying that after his performance against everton barry could be the one to make way, id be worried if i was him

Or it could mean that he has £100m of midfielder lined up for the summer but isn't happy to leave us short of competition for places now? Could mean anything to be honest and considering the wages we are likely to be paying Vieira and, should he come, Flamini I'd hardly say he has no money to spend.

Whilst I have always liked De Jong and Barry looks class at times the simple fact of the matter is that at the moment we are in the situation that they can both fully expect to walk back into the team tonight despite their complete non-performance against Everton. Not a healthy situation, they should be feeling someone breathing down their necks.

Silly silly silly comments speculating that Mancini has no money to spend in January.

If Mancini wanted to make large swingeing changes this window we would all be up in arms. Performing major surgery on the squad/team at this point would almost certainly set us backwards not forwards in our aims for the season.

What I am positive about, is that as part of the process to recruit a potential new manager, the candidates were asked for their views as to what needed to change to step up our performance this season. Whilst there are some weaknesses to the squad we ALL knew that there was just "something" not working. Whether that be coaching, motivation, management of certain players, formations employed, drilling of patterns of play.

We all know that we have good enough players to get 4th spot. We have a miles stronger squad than Liverpool IMO, and we have better quality in depth than Aston Villa and Tottenham.

If we can all see that, why should Mancini feel that he needs to take massive risks by pushing players out and scrambling to get new ones in. It would be fucking madness.

He definitely has access to money...we are Brewstered. Why wouldn't he. But he doesn't need to splash it for the bloody sake of it FFFS

Ant I dont think its a case of no money to spend, of course theres money and am sure the chequebooks open should he need it. I do think as I said before that maybe the targets he's after are not available in this transfer window and he's bringing in cover now and we will se him spend in Summer.

However I still have a feeling that we will see one permanant signing this window.
I haven't a fecking clue what I'm doing! Gillie come back man I want my sig back. As the Photobucket thingy gone?

cool - good signing, Barry wants the operation to get his groin sorted before the world cup, VK is gonna be a CB so we're not as overloaded in the position as it would seem - a great signing if it happens.

Barry's been knackered for a few games now, and he's had more bad matches than good ones for us this season! He couldn't complain if he was dropped for a few matches imo.

The newswires are decidely lacking in info on this. All we have is 'Sky sources'.

However SKY remind me of Churchill's famous quote on Stanley Baldwin:

"He occasionally stumbled over the truth, but hastily picked himself up and hurried on as if nothing had happened"

Maybe they got one right?
