The front 3's pace last night is enough to scare any team in the world.

Made me laugh, did anyone hear De Bryne's interview after the match? They asked him what its like playing with Jesus and co...he said "We can't keep up with them in midfield"

If you saw enough of Jesus play before he arrived (I made efforts to watch a few games/videos showing all of his touches in matches for Palmieras, besides his appearances for Brazil) you can see that he had a very good chance to actually cope well with the physicality of the Prem.

From what I observed he was very physical, and aggressive...almost too much so at times, suggesting he may need to learn to temper it a bit, which I noted in an earlier post on him as well (he could have been sent off yesterday). He's also quite good in the air, which we have not seen much of, and is not afraid to go head to head against centre halves during one on ones.

All of this is why I actually thought he would actually hit the ground running, and provide some juice to our attack immediately, and was not amongst those who were more reluctant to make such claims.

Perhaps we, understandably, assume that with a comparison to Neymar and that he's Brazilian (based on our own stereotyping) we believe that he would be a soft "diver."

Actually, he can dive...despite how tough he is. I have seen it before.

The very thought that he could have been sent off is ludicrous and even our incompetent referees couldnt do that. The first yellow was really a joke. The imaginary red card thing would mean bookings every match and at least 3 or 4 last night from what I saw but only given to him as he is a new foreigner and needed to be taught a lesson.Unlike Noble who is salt of the earth Englander!

And we all know that the 2nd wasn't even a foul even though the useles ref thought it was despite not penalising some of the WHU thuggery through the match

I agree with you, Doug, actually. Didn't mean to say it was truly deserved, but more that he is not afraid to mix it up, and I have seen sloppiness in his tackling before. As further evidence, you can see he picked up 11 yellow cards in 26 appearances for Palmieras:

Perhaps yesterday's match wasn't the greatest example of this but when the second incident occurred there was speculation by the BT announcers that he could have been sent off, because he had already picked up a yellow (unfair or not). I think the ref knew the first was bogus, hence why it didn't happen, but some might try to argue he deserved one the 2nd time. He doesn't have a reputation with referees in England really yet so not sure what their view would be of him other than what they saw in his first few games.

I also think there is bias in refereeing, even if it is subtle, and unconscious.

My larger point was really just that he is an aggressive player, like Fernandino actually, who may get punished for it with us.

Sorry disagree Sterling is a checkers player not a chess player, he cannot see the play build just whats in front of him. But he is young and will learn with the group around him.

Hmm.. Where then did he get the idea to make that pass to Jesus when he could have just taken it himself? I believe the BT announcing team said it was the best pass of the game that led to a goal.

His runs are fantastic and indicative of his football intelligence. He also does not get called for offside as much as Aguero, as far as I can recall this season.

I think it may be nervousness/composure that affects him most because we have also seen him take some shots on goal that are quite up there in terms of quality.

I think it's mainly a lack of composure, but on top of that his shooting technique is, quite frankly, average at best.

His movement is brilliant though and it's great to see it paying off.

SMH I'm not sure if we are able to have this debate. Did you ever play organised football? The pass was the only play to make mate, really obvious to anyone that can kick a ball.

of the four, it seems like Sterling is probably the weakest link. This kid jesus showed Kun where he should be last night ,mixing it in front of the goalie in the five yard box.
Just the jolt kun needs , jesus was very much a team player last night , not too driven to do it all himself.
