God, if we had a good defense we'd be so good.
So why did we lose 3-1 in Monaco and Juve win 2-0?
for me because we have Nico and Kolarov/Stones in defense (Kompany didnt play, did he?) and Willy/Bravo in goal while Juve have Bonucci and Chiellini in defense and Buffon in goal. no comparison whatsoever.
as simple as that.
Higuain, simple he takes chances we miss.If we had a ruthless player like that we would have run away with the league.
Higuin missed about 4 sitters before he scored last night. I'd hardly call him a ruthless striker, Juves weak link if anything
Your making that it up mate. As for weak link, Even more B.S

i do not remember the 2 legs with Monaco but given Pep's philosophy and the boring, boring pass pass pass possession style we currently employ coupled with Monaco's desire to use their pace to counter-attack, shouldn't we have completed more passes and had the ball more too?
We did.
We did indeed. We won (Guardiola Rules Football).

hence the reason for me ignoring this facet and focusing solely on the defenders on the pitch when tying to explain the biggest diff between Juve vs. Monaco and City vs Monaco.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

Oh dear, ok what would have been obvious to whoever watched both games was that juve used the ball much better than we did particularly in the last third. Their one touch passing and risky passes to players in that area of the pitch were coming off, we gave the ball away far too often in these situations particularly the first half, that's what I meant by completed passes. If we completed more passes statistically then I'm sure the majority would have been in our own half or sideways /backwards. At least fewer telling passes.
If anyone watched the two games and thinks the difference was just because of the defence then I can only suggest you try watching them again after that if you still think it's just the defensive display I will happily bow out of this thread.

Juve have a 10 point lead in Italy maybe rest a few, I think it will be interesting, Juve will not freeze, but Madrid will be favourites. I hope Juve do it.

Juve should have beaten Barcelona in the final a couple of years ago. They created so many good chances but didn't take them. They were the better side for large parts of the match.

It's difference in school of thought. I'm pretty old fashioned in that I believe building a good team starts with central defence (and goalkeeper) then central midfield. Once you got those pieces you are at least giving yourself a chance. Pep definitely has different mindset though. Not to slag him off (apparently you have to put that in every post) just a notion.
No mention of the failed bids to sign seven defensive players. Maybe Pep just had to work with what was handed to him.

Even with our shite defenders, Pep could have played a settled defence so that they could become used to playing together (something that is key for a strong defence).
Instead he chose to change the line-up every single week.
There is no doubt we need to buy better players, but Pep didn't help the situation with his constant tinkering.

Him being the weak link is opinion, but he was definitely having a mare in the first leg before he scored. Shanked two easy chances and tripped over his own feet when clean through and that's just off the top of my head a week later
