has looked bang average to me. hope we know what we're doing.

For a centre half to be a top quality proposition Bob, I think he needs to be considered on the following merits :-

1. How dominant is he in the air ??
2. How good is he in the tackle ??
3. How fast is he ??
4. Is he a defensive organiser ??
5. Does he possess good leadership qualities ??
6. How good is he on the ball ??

I honestly don't know how many of these attributes VVD brings to the table although, in all fairness, I've not really taken much note of him in the past and it's only now that he's being linked to City that concern has kicked in.

He's been linked all season MC.
He seems one of them, was brilliant first half of the season and everyone was drooling over him. I'm not sure why, maybe it was after an injury, but he's been a bit average second half of the season, and all the masturbating seems to have stopped.

I think VVD is a really good player and that more importantly, he will be a great fit into our team. There is an authority in his play that comes from calmness and I think the way he looks belies how tough he is and that this will surprise many of us - a mirror image of Otamendi really!

Eh? I thought he'd been injured last 3 or 4 months?

Good player though. It's clear neither Stones nor Ota can play without a Kompany or a Van Dijk

Thanks PB, I must have had my head in the sand this season, insofar as he's concerned.

Rationally or not, I've still got to admit to a vague unease over his potential signature, coupled with a feeling of being a little underwhelmed and disappointed.

However, fingers crossed.

I'm sure you're right, that's obviously why no-ones been drooling second half of the season.
TBH, I don't take much notice of anyone but City, but my point was that he's been linked all season and everyone was raving earlier. Now that seems to have changed to him being an unknown quantity.

VVD missed 18 games for saints having been listed as injured on 26th Jan with a malleaor fractue.... Yeah I had to look it up so will save you the bother...

http://www.radiologymasterclass.co.uk/g ... ractures_1

But is he worth the £60M (as reported by the sun) which is 3 times his market value and us supposedly paying him over four times his current salary (he's on 45k pw at the moment)

There has to be better value but same quality out there, or for the money being mentioned a much better player?

Let's hope we do get him but not at those prices

Genuine question, but with 60M pogbas couldn't we get Bonucci?

I think that was the asking price for him last summer.

That being said, I am almost 100 % that we are not paying that much for Van Dyke. 40 at tops, which, Imho, is still too much.

He's worth a max of £20 million. No chance he's worth £60 fuckin million pounds. And if we pay that we're stupid.

But it's just being reported by the media, who we all know talk out of their Arsenal.

The fee sounds outrageous, but for me the alleged wage is the real punch in the dick here. I don't see how that's supposed to work out for the rest of the team if we make him our highest earner. Or is the number mentioned the ceiling including bonuses, with a much lower basic wage?

They're all reporting it, these days "papers" seem to openly spread the rumours of others even stating their competition as the source and don't even bother investigating for themselves, real journalism is a dying entity.

Talking of which I see that Cheesman has left (retired?) the BBC

He posted a video of himself after the Chelsea home game basically accusing the ref of corruption. So, for telling the truth.

20m? In this market and going to a top PL side from a PL side? That number seems a bit low.

I'd say 35-40m, but the surcharge due to competition and lack of available options is pushing the price up.

Laporte and Bonucci are the only other real options I think we have, I can think of.

Celtic want to pay 5m for Roberts? But we're holding out for 12m?
