Seems that 25yo Danny Ings was playing for the u23s (again, 4th time in the 4 games so far this season) but, haha, he got injured and is off.

He wasn't on the physioroom injury list so is he just out of favour with Klopp?

He is just poor

Average Liverpool team age, 19.73. City, 17.64. Based on years only, but that is more than 2 years older (or 1½ years with Ings reset as an 18yo).

They'll be claiming this as payback for yesterday.

So that's OK then.

Shame we lost with such a late goal but we were not good and probably deserved to lose. Especially poor I thought in the first half. Brahim was anonymous out on the right, Foden much the same in the middle, Gonzalez worked hard against two monster center backs and got nothing and it was just Garre as a threat from the left but he made nothing of the good situations he had.

We set up with a formation of 3.2.4.1 which was a bit weird with Diallo central of the 4 with Foden and Davenport and Smith sitting. Much of the trouble was our passing from the back or deep midfield and even if it found a man the control wasnt good enough to move on. Liverpool had chances but as much down to our mistakes than anything.

A pass from the keeper to Oliver rolled over his foot to create panic, a foul ( it was a dive) on the egde of the box ended with them hitting the post. We actually missed a great chance when Diaz made a central run , brought the ball down and tutned inside only for the keeper to save point blank.

Second half I thought we were better with Diaz down the middle but some how a number of great situations were messed up with the final ball. Liverpool hadnt done too much till late on when a corner was cleared off the line and Grimshaw also made one great save. It was us giving the ball away really badly (again) near half way and they broke and scored with a top curling shot.

Bottom of the league I think with no wins from 4 games.

Just had the whole squad walk by me at the airport. They're all so bloody small! Especially Foden - it's amazing how well he did against grown men in pre-season.

Just shows the difference between friendlies and the real thing. A talent and great prospect but he isn't ready yet for the first team

UEFA game kicks off at 2pm, although there is precious little about it at the moment on City Academy Twitter or Facebook. Can't be bothered to look at the website.

Spurs u19 game is on BT Sport at 15:00 but I don't see any others being on. I really wish City would get their act together for TV coverage of our youth teams.

City u23 vs Sunderland u23

0-1 6' (Charlie Oliver sent off, penalty goal)
1-1 32' (Brahim Diaz penalty)

Two Sunderland defenders booked within the first 15 minutes. Sounds like a dirty game!

I'm at the Etihad. Have to say there were gasps when the penalty was given against us, let alone the red card that followed. Seemed harsh to say the least. It's not been a dirty game, there was just a 5 minute period where Sunderland were prepared to stop Brahim running by any means.

Got back into the game with a penalty, looked on top and then conceded a bad goal in added on time.

What. A. Strike.

Brahim curls one into the top corner on the hour mark.
