In other words, it used to be a big games but now Liverpool need it to stay relevant.
Yep. Only the biggest tie for old dinosaurs like him. City and Chelsea are the big boys now whether they like it or not.

Tbf, there was plenty of talk before the Chelsea-City game, but mostly it was about the numerous ways in which Chelsea would win.

I see, so no history behind the derbies in Manchester, Merseyside, London, midlands etc, they are so cringey it makes me baulk. Liverpool have been title also rans for over 25 years with a couple of close runs that yielded nothing. It their own biggest game not anyone elses or the leagues biggest FFS. This changes year on year depending on who the title challengers are. This should be on the History Channel for those who love a good old chinwag about the past.

I looked up once about when this alleged great 'rivalry' actually took place. I think there were about 2 seasons in 50 years when these two dregs were actually competing with each other for the title. First Scum were shit then the last 25+ years Dippers have been shit. It's all about Taggart racking up the titles to knock them off their perch etc and from that manufactured by the media. Expect the usual bore fest

The funny thing is that they don't realise how similar they are.

Indeed Mate.
that's why, yet guilty as charged, I fought most of offseason boredom by a silent self-amusing journey down there.
histograms of up&down moods throught the transfer window could have been used as draft for a rollercoaster park developement.
I can tell You, I never felt as envious of Carl's or Mase's artistic wumming talent.

Nail on head mate, this is not a natural born rivalry, it was one instigated by Sky and played out by Taggart. Sky needed more than football, they wanted rivalries to provoke the viewer to part with their cash. Rags were their cash-cow but it's no good them running away with it for years, there had to be something more to get others to tune in.
Look at how Murdoch has now taken over TalkSports, which gives even more promotion to the Rags than it did before, and that's saying something! If anybody thinks it's for the good of the game, think again, as Sky don't do anything other than for their own purpose. They know they need the old Sky 4, now Sky 6 or 7, tuning in, and what better way than to promote that to the masses who don't tune in to their channels?
I do wonder of Sky are exerting pressure elsewhere, creating an 'opportunity' for the likes of the Rags to compete for the title. They were given many decisions last season and still finished sixth, maybe those decisions will make a difference this term?
