Ireland game tonight was like watching City at their worst in the 90's tonight and Denmark were just as bad. International football is hard to take at that middle level, very little class on the pitch tonight, Spuds Ericksen the only decent player of note.
Exactly G&B.
I also appreciate what seem like kind words from SSB, but the fact is that isn’t a one off CL type display from us.
I’ve watched that all through the qualifiers.
When we get it right with the limited resources we have, I would agree that there is so much to admire, but it’s all the old fashioned organisational thing. Work ethic. Team work. Togetherness. Never say die etc etc.
But all too often all I see is professional footballers just hoofing the ball out of play rather than trying to play football.
I’m as patriotic as the next guy and used to go to all the Irish games but I find it very hard to watch now but feel compelled to.
It’s just something in the national psyche.
I can’t wish failure on them because I genuinely believe it means so much to each player to play for Ireland and it means so much to the nation.
But it really wouldn’t upset me greatly if we don’t qualify.
For the fans as much as the team I think Russia could be a big disappointment.
