Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I’m having an interesting debate with two Liverpool fans who unreservedly suggest that Gerrard is a better player and one of them even implying that I know nothing about football by implying that Gerrard is not fit to lace Ya Ya’s boots. I believe I am right !!
There will not be a Liverpool fan on the planet who agrees with me, but the neutrals will have been convinced by the red media that he is a football god.
A great player but not that great is my view.
Your thoughts ?

Totally agree that not one dipper will agree with you.
Yaya and Gerrard
Both great passing range
Yaya slightly faster when he was up to speed
Both great strikers of the ball
Both good at set pieces
Gerrard much the better leader, dragged Liverpool through the years of shit squads
Both were match winners
If I had to have one in their prime, I would have yaya however, I think over to.e for 13-14 years at your club, Gerrard was a great servant, even if he only stayed because of gangsters. Plus yaya can be a tosser from time to time as can his agent.

Both in there prime ya ya every time, way more dynamic and influential. Gerrard was a pundits favourite and received lots of praise due to his international standing. Wouldn't get into our current team!

WWs bang on the money - it’s an argument you will never win, so don’t waste your time
On the surface, Yaya in his prime was a better midfield player than Gerrard was - in the hearts they will know that

This makes interesting viewing. Some of the things Ya Ya does, I really don’t believe Gerrard had the brain to even think about doing.
I know I can’t win the argument against their fans, I’m just after some moral support !!

Use their own 'history' argument against them, Yaya won the Prem twice, Gerrard never did. There you go, the history books decided it.

Yaya in his prime was an extraordinary player. I've not seen many better.

Did Yaya slip and lost a title? No.
End of the debate.

Yaya scored goals in 3 cup finals and when it came to the wire for the title, he stepped up with decisive goals and amazing all round play.
Better in his prime for sure

WW makes some excellent points. Tough one, equally good in my opinion. If our current owners had bought us 15 years earlier I Gerrard would have been a player they would have wanted to buy,

Not expressing a view, but how many cup finals did Gerrard score in?

I'm not biased or anything...hah but Yaya possessed an incredible combination of skill, intelligence, size, pace, strength and athletic ability that Gerrard wishes he had on his best day.
At the top of Gerrard's game he was no slouch, and arguably equal enough to Yaya as a threat to score from long shots/set pieces, but Yaya 2011-2014 was probably the most complete midfielder in the world during that period and really just something else compared to his peers at that position.
They were both difference makers, although Yaya I'd give an edge to as I feel he could virtually take over a game with one of those runs, and Gerrard I guess you could argue was a better leader, but before the agent issue arose I think he was more respected by the players as a leader.
Yaya in his prime was better than Gerrard I'd have to say.

Prime yaya was world class imo.
Gerrard played here longer, is English and a dipper. You won't win this one.

I’d personally rather have Gerrard in his prime.

I always rated Lampard higher than Gerard, so in my view a Yaya/Lampard comparison would be more apt.

Yaya in his prime redefined what a complete midfielder was. Pace, power, touch, shooting, passing, football intelligence, and just pure domination.
Plus Yaya never dove, got sent off, or fell on his arse when it mattered. Stepped up in big games and has never missed a penalty for us, ever.
Slippy G was very good, but his contribution always had to much flash to it rather than meat. Yaya's contribution to the team was pure meat, with the side benefit that it looked effortlessly elegant.

4 cup finals including the champions league. In fact, he's the only player to score in fa, league, UEFA cup final and champs league final.
Not bad at all.
