MotM v Basel | Away

Postby Beefymcfc » Tue Feb 13, 2018 10:08 pm

I'm seriously impressed. Although there should have been a penalty the guys were impressive (less the speed of the back 2).

Your choice, and one will really open the bag. I thought Bernardo is coming to his own but Gundogan, even though he was errant, resulted his class.

KdB, always brilliant.

Fernandinho was excellent for me, quietly going about his business as usual.

Ilkay vormen today. Fern is a good shout as well, but his yellow pissed me off. It might come back to haunt us at a later stage of the competition if he gets suspended.

Fern for me.
He’s decisive. Does the nitty gritty bread and butter very well and consistently.

I thought Aguero is looking much better again. Linking things up much better.

Gundogan and Silva getting on the ball a lot but need to improve their final ball and decision making. Picky I know but, what the hell.

Fern is our glue.

Ederson for me So composed and incredible distribution. Goes under the radar so often, almost taken for granted.

Ilkay for me, he's so silky on the ball, cuts through midfields so smoothly. And the way he caressed that ball for his second goal was just beautiful.

Fern for getting deliberately suspended for the home tie dead rubber , nice rest for our "engine" . Big shout for Bernado Silva , he has gelled into the team ethic and style fantastically with increased game time yet another player Pep has "improved" , Gundo also good again tonight . If he cuts out the odd errors per game ratio he would be some player but not quite there yet , injury free and getting stronger every game though massive plus !
Not really here

Great touch but didn't he lose the ball a few seconds later? Seems a bit pointless to me.

Had a little vote for Delph. Looked very neat and like he'd never been away so just because of that. Would've been Gundogan had he not missed from close range and flopped the odd killer pass toward the end.

Sane obviously just wanted a little run about.

GunDeBruyne. Power, precision, quality. One of his best games for us , and he's still going to improve.

Bernado ; see above . Showing why we bought him . Can fill Daves boots one day.

Ederson ; got us out of jail several times.

Fernandinho ; busy , efficient , effective as always , but a silly yellow.

The Basel crowd. Nutters . Kept going to the 92nd minute even at 0-4 down. Brilliant fans , good on 'em.

Gundogan for me, he let Kev have a rest, some great moves and and passes, narrowly edging it from Bernado. Would love to see Bernado on the left, so doesn't have to keep turning round and switching to come in on his left foot. Great goal from him, def getting better, and that take .. wow!

No one really stood out. Which is actually great to see in an away 4-0, especially in Europe. As JohnStAustall said, Delph slotted in as if he had never been away. The goalie played well. All the midfield were good, especially Gundog as two goals testify. Silva looked threatening. Aguero was busy.
Thought the centre halves were a little rusty but they can be forgiven for that. Sterling had a fairly quiet game and again given the season he has had can be forgiven.

Thought it was a very polished performance

I though kompany was poor first half, he even mistimed his trademark tactical block that he always picks up a yellow for. I hope it's just rustiness as he is 4th choice for me at the moment

I was thinking about Ferds silly yellow this morning ... probably tactically done on purpose as he will miss the return game but be back for one of the 'big hitters' in the next round.

I believe its 3 yellows for a ban in Champions league, that was Fernandinho's second, I think.
