I’m disappointed but clearly Danilo is staying so we have two right backs.

We do have a buy back clause apparently.

I doubt this will be the last of our youngsters departing. Angelino has outgrown the Dutch League. Tosin surely won’t stay. Then there’s Manu Garcia and Patrick Roberts. Sale and buy back options will be the future even for some of the best of them.

I'm a little gutted but it makes sense if we have a buy back clause. I would rather he developed playing regularly at an average team than the odd games here and there at city. He has the talent, now he needs to gain expereince. I have a feeling he will return fully accomplished, well i bloody hope so

Selling on with a sensible buy back clause, ah look its like a fancy type of loan!!
It might not be too bad.

I'm pretty sure Roberts will be shipped out to a team in the lower half of the table, possibly at a financial loss. His attitude in the interview he gave over the weekend seems to have changed a bit, however, as he said he's looking to step out of his comfort zone and on to a bigger challenge, or words to that effect.

Anyone know how much our Academy costs to run these days? I read years back (either in the Sven/Thaksin era or the early days of the takeover) that it cost £2 million per year, but I guess that's increased massively in recent years.

Soriano quoted back in 2013

"In 2003, we did a study at Barcelona. For each player delivered to the first team from the cantera [academy] there was an average cost of €2.4m [£2m]."

I'm not sure if we'll make a loss on Roberts, reports at the time suggested initial cost was £5 million with add ons bringing it to £12m. As them add ons are likely never going to materialise then we can assume he cost just the £5m. Celtic would've contributed something too, either toward his wages or loan fees.

One journalist saying there’s no buy back option, just a 25 per cent sell on clause. He’s the best defender ever to come through the Academy and no buy back clause. If that’s true I don’t understand it.

Maffeo’s agency, Media Base Sport, says City do have a buy back clause.

As them add ons are likely never going to materialise then we can assume he cost just the £5m. Celtic would've contributed something too, either toward his wages or loan fees.

The figures for Robers vary wildly - from £2m + £6m in add-ons (Daily Mail) to £5m + £6m add-ons (Guardian), which is close to what you state. However, he'll probably have triggered some of those add-ons, and some may continue to be triggered after we sell him (unless there's a sell-on fee instead).

That Soriano quote is interesting - the figure I saw was definitely for the whole academy, and not a per-player cost. I don't know how it would compare to our running fees, as it's not entirely clear whether that's 'cost of running the academy for every player making it to the first team' or 'average costs involved in getting a player into the first team (ignoring investments in other players who don't make it)'. Either way, I'd assume that our running costs have increased exponentially over the past decade.

Has seriously messed up my team planning for next season - I had Danilo offsky and Pablo coming back freed up a place for somebody actually good enough for us. I suppose it's just top drawer replacements for Yaya, Zinch, Delph and Gundogan now.
5 world class additions would have been such a tonic. :(

Well we can give as many people as we like a "chance" or we can trust the manager and win trophies.

I thought he had a chance as back up full back but that was only if we shifted danilo. Im happy with kyle and danilo so no big deal for me.

Kyle danilo delph and mendy is 4 quality full back options and unlike last year the least of our problems.

I cant see any of our current academy prospescts outside of diaz or foden hqving a chanc with us and that includes nmecha. Im ok wity that tho.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
