I'm not sure if we had time to appeal and take it to the panel. Maybe a fault of our own.

" ... so we go into time added on in the 2012 European Cup Final here in Lisbon, it's still Manchester City 2 Inter MIlan 2, City attacking in numbers , sky blue shirts swarming forward as they try to win it in normal time. But Inter clear it up the field, a flick on, and who's that running into space, it's Mariga, could this be the hat-trick, he brings the ball down, goes past Joe Hart - GOOOOOOOOOAAAALL! "

Haha, could well happen.

That said he could flop and this work permit issue be hailed as a piece of luck for us. Only time will tell.

I remember ronaldinho and petr cech both had work permits rejected when they were supposed to be signed for arsenal.. I think ronaldinho was when he was moving from gremio and cech while he was still playing for sparta prague. But if we didn't sign Mariga cos of work permits that would be very very annoying

Am I right in thinking that Muntari may be available now, seeing as Inter have just signed a player in his position?
Wouldn't mind seeing him bolster our midfield for next season...

He's an interesting young player but he's played what, nine games for Parma in serie A? There are no guarantees with a player like that even if Mourinho wants him, I doubt he'll waltz right in to the Inter starting lineup and leave Muntari surplus to requirments.

It's always exciting to sign a young player out of nowhere who could turn out to be a real gem, I think we're all longing for a Vermaelen- type signing. But we could also end up with another Gelson Fernandes so I don't think we should be too disappointed even if he goes on to do well for Inter

the positive spin on this is that we were his preferred choice over inter milan

There were no guarantees with this signing, I know the fact that he has ended up at Inter makes it look like he's the next Essien but only time will tell.

If it had to be Joohson or Mariga I would have always picked Johnson - proven young English talent.

According to a paper in Italy, it has been Mancini himself who told Inter to go for him once it was clear that we couldn't have got him due to the WP not being conceded.

Did you guys see this?

Apparently the PM of Kenya got Mariga the work permit but it was too late... this begs the question who the fuck is responsible for dragging this out to the last day of the transfer window?

If this had happened last week there would not have been any issues due to the intervention of the Kenyan PM.

We have idiots at the top level in this club. I think that is glaringly apparent once again. Who in their right mind would leave this transfer to the final day of the transfer window? It shows complete incompetence.

Good luck doing that, Inter have no need to sell their players for financial reasons as they are backed by Moratti who can just turn and get some money from the family oil company, so if he's a success there, there will be no chance of getting him. It would be easier to get Muntari if Mariga is a success, that is one player they might be willing to sell.

If Mariga stays healthy he practically he's the first alternative to practically the whole midfield except for Sneijder. And since Thiago Motta is prone to injuries, since Mariga can't be worse than Muntari, there's no way he wouldn't get his chances. Mou seems to not be so confident with Cambiasso anymore, Zanetti in midfield is more a must then a need, Stankovič is injured, so I think Mariga has big chances to get his number of games in two digits.

I wouldn't wish for Muntari if I was you... a hard-worker, but veeeeery overrated in my opinion.

just about to come on here and post the bbc article... it's a fucking disgrace. We could have started negotiations the week before, but you know they wanted it on deadline day to generate a buzz. Fucking idiots. I don't think the Sheik will be pleased about how that went. What that really speaks to is an ignorance as to how transfers/work permits really work, so I'd guess it's Cooke's fault.
