I know that this is the way of football, but it will be sad when Dave hangs up his boots. At least we have found a ready made replacement

With the quality he has, I think we can get something from Dave in the next 3-4 years. A Pirlo-esque role.

But yeah, Bernie can become the next cult hero.

I think Dave has 2 more seasons after this with us. But we’ve seen in the last month or so that he hasn’t been in the best of form and at 33, he can’t play every week and play to the high standards he has set himself. Not suggesting he isn’t good enough for us for a second, more that he will pass on the baton of being our “go to” guy and our playmaker to Bernardo. Agree there is still a place for him, obviously, but it will be in a reduced role and that’s what saddens me a little bit

Agree.
Up there with Xavi and Iniesta. One of the finest Spain ever had.

I think Bernardo can be even better than the legend Silva if he keeps developing. Silva still is the pass master but Bernado a better dribbler. He needs to do it year in year out though.

Bernardo is not a replacement for Dave. He's there to enhance the team ethic.

I don't think we can get a replacement for Dave but we will evolve with a different type of player in his position.

What a player Bernardo s though. Has the qualities of Nasri but none of the bad traits. Love the bloke.

Incredible to say, but he has better close control than Nasri. A young player willing to run all game with his levels of skill is one in a million

Other than mbappe, I think we got the best from that Monaco team. Some of his touches today were sublime.

The guy is the definition of mint. Does everything fans love on and off the pitch.

Has the most insane motor, sublime technical skills, the right attitude and seems to be a great teammate.

If you haven't seen it before, this video should only make you like Bernardo more. A pro footballer living like a normal guy, even has laundry drying out on the porch:

Supposedly he's about to sign a new deal.

I know what I said about Laporte's new deal and I acknowledge my hypocrisy but I'm happy for Bernardo and want to keep him here as long as possible. Love the guy.
