No he didn't, Barcelona was his first choice, had Barcelona not met his asking price, he could have headed to us as his second choice. We cant force players to come over if they have their hearts set somewhere else.

With the fitness and injury issues we had here near the end, another two games with this lot would had been really really hard.

As bitter as he is, Pochettino was right on the pre-match conference when he said at this level it is not normal for them to play as much as they do, while Ajax have the whole support of their FA and got a weekend rest with their blessing.

The flip side to that weekend off last week, is that they have the Dutch Cup Final this weekend. Not exactly the ideal time to have it, sandwiched between the CL semi finals

Indeed, but a rest before the three battles it is better than between, if you ask me.

Please stop this nonsense about two teams that have to go a little bit out of their way !

City have played two games a week since mid November !

The only reason we have no game tonight is because of corrupt UEFA.

Now, City would have destroyed Ajax tonight .

They make too many elementary mistakes and think they can just manhandle the opposition when they fail to control the ball.

Actually, they would not have seen much of the ball if we had played them tonight.

HTF did spuds get through ?

Our downfall was going for the quadruple, just too much, just cant do it without quadruple luck, yes Pep fucked up in the initial selection of the first leg, but to be fair the amount of games has taken its toll and we had to rotate. Didn't help kev been missing most of the season. I wont waste my energy mentioning Mendy.
Next season we have to priorise the premiere league and chimps league, play kids in the domestic cups.

Frenkie de Jong wanted to join Manchester City before he signed for Barcelona from Ajax last week, according to Dutch football journalist Marcel van der Kraan.

De Jong will move to the Spanish champions this summer on a five-year deal after Barcelona agreed a £74.5m deal with the Dutch side on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old has since revealed he had spoken with City boss Pep Guardiola over a move to the Etihad which drew criticism from Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde.

But De Telegraaf journalist Van der Kraan has told Sky Sports News' Transfer Talk Podcast Ajax gave De Jong permission to talk with Guardiola and the player was keen on a move to the Premier League champions.

Van der Kraan revealed: "De Jong had made his mind up at an early stage. He wanted to go to one club which was Manchester City because they had a manager who he always believed in and who he thinks is one of the best in the world.

To win 4 we would need a squad that even we couldn't afford. A domestic trebble is the absolute maximum, it always was. And to do it would be a truly great achievement.
But I agree on the strategy for next season regarding the cups, they take their toll.

I recall reading it was the wages that saw us shy away from DeJong, he's allegedly getting £260k a week at Barca, that would have made him one of our highest earners, if not the highest.

No. We are not the rags. Who are we to decide which cups we can win? Take each game on its merits and play to win each and every game. I can’t imagine Pep thinks otherwise and let the chips fall where they fall.

If we win one pot next season then great. Two would be better still. Three an unbelievable achievement. Four unprecedented. We can do it, we just need a bit of luck here and there

I think you need a lot of luck to take on the 4 competitions. We really could have gone all the way with a fully fit squad, but one thing affects the other. The amount of high intensity games, consistently 2 or 3 a week for months, takes it's toll.

For all the criticism of Pep's rotation policy and some team selections that have baffled us, I have to say, he and the squad have done impressively well and coped admirably with everything thrown at them this season.

I haven't always agreed with team selections, but let's face it, Pep's team has one trophy already, is in the final of another and with two games to go have the PL title in their own hands. We narrowly failed to progress in the CL for various reasons but if we win the other three, frankly I won't give a toss.

To get to this stage of the season with so much to play for is a remarkable achievement, given the injuries we've had.

We question Pep sometimes, that's natural. But I wouldn't swap him for any other manager out there. I always thought 4 was a push too far and the three we are still in for are the ones I would have prioritised. I think we would have lost the league had we progressed in the CL.

Hopefully Klopp will demonstrate the folly of assuming that ignoring the cups means you will automatically win the PL or CL.

In any case, it is mainly being in the FA Cup and CL that causes the fixture pile up. There are relatively few games in LC and all over by March, so in my opinion its always worth trying to get that one in the bag.

Just about sums it up. Once the CL gets cleaned up and VAR finally becomes the objective instrument it is meant to be , then i will give the CL a bit of cred.
For me it's great to be able to drive around into different countries watching City in the CL.

However, I feel the Domestic treble is really where it's at.

Crickey, Scouse2 fans go on about winning the CL. when it was the European Cup, they even got a bye in the first round , one time through.

Whilst the CL has become more than simply the Winners of each league.
Nevertheless, if you take this season for example both City and Scouse2 would be credible entries in the CL for 2020.

It's not Scouse2's fault that we are currently one point better than them. However, these are the type of teams that should be competing in Europes "Best" Footy competition.
