Sure we had maroon trim on socks in the Lee, bell Summerbee era, but its well before my time so just seem to recall it from old pictures

Maroon is proper. Actual purple is nothing to do with us. Actual purple on a home kit is a fiasco. Although last year's was a mess too, to be fair.
