Best Partner for Sergio

Postby Hazy2 » Fri Mar 20, 2020 1:50 pm

In the time the goal machine has been with us, who was his best partner? I cannot do a poll. For me Alvaro Negredo was very good in a short but very productive stint.

Agree with Negredo, that first few months of that season they were brilliant to watch. Loved this one

That said Aguero/Silva is one of the most productive combinations the PL has seen.

Silva was the best at what he does and that’s a fact but also one of the very worst, in his position , at scoring goals - I’d love to know what the stats are for the amount of goal scoring opportunities he’s missed over the years.

But he will be missed like crazy and will never be replaced like for like .

The Beast was unreal for six months, then worse than Bony. So strange.

Dave’s pass for Edin’s goal at the swamp in the 1-6 will live forever.

The end of the season in 2012 with Tevez was spectacular. They were fantastic, if you think about it how selfish both of them are.

With Big Ed for me.

Tevez. We only caught a glimpse of it at the end of the 11/12 season but they looked class.

I agree. If I could have paired anyone with him long term it would be Tevez.

It’s hard to argue with the pairing of Beauty and the Beast on performance but Tevez not far behind, it’s a shame we didn’t see them together for longer.

Agree with this. That game at Norwich in the run-in was ridiculous

I remember coming out of that game and a Norwich fan, thinking the rags were home and dry, saying that if we'd had Tevez for the whole season we would have won the league!

It did look good at the end of that season but Mancini never got it to work the next season, it was Aguero's worst season at City. Tevez was also down to half his regular goal tally for the season. Didn't seem to gel at Argentina either.

How many matches did Tevez and Aguero play together the following season?

Edit (from March 13 when comparing Aguero’s strike partners):

“Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez – The Aguero/Tevez partnership is City's strongest combination this term and despite playing together in just seven games last season, the club won ALL of those matches, scoring 21 goals. The club have won 60 per cent of the games Tevez has featured in this campaign and 61 per cent of those featuring Aguero, which suggests the Premier League champions must do all they can to hang on to the influential Argentines.“

That’s because he was injured. He started 22 premier league games and scored 12 goals.

That’s because he was injured. He started 22 premier league games and scored 12 goals.

They're 11/12 stats Mase.

Aguero missed just 6 league games through injury the following season (12/13), he came off the bench in 8 and remained on the bench for another two.

The next season (13/14)his injury issues were worse but he still scored 17 in just 20 league starts.

Mancini couldn't make it work, would've been interesting to see what Pellegrini could've done with them given his liking for two up front.

Not according to WhoScored mate. 12/13 he started 22 Prem games.

The actually quoted info was from March 2013 discussing that season so far.

Yep, he started 22, benched in 10 and missed 6 through injury.

Yes but the 7 games bit was from 'last season' ie 11/12.

He looked class in glimpses with Tevez and Negrado. Bit longer with Dzeko, but none of the ever really wanted to be the 2nd man. I think aguero in a 433 has been his best time with us to be fair.

Himself.

The way we play is geared up to getting the best out of one striker. Two in the team disrupts our flow and pattern.

He works pretty well with Jesus, it just doesn't happy very often.
