BRIAN KIDD is on the brink of a sensational return to Manchester City as part of the backroom staff.
Kidd has been approached by City chief Mark Hughes to act as a link man between the first team and the academy.
His move to City, where he spent three years as a player, will infuriate Manchester United chief Sir Alex Ferguson.
Kidd was the United manager's assistant when they secured the Premier League title for the first time in 1993.
They fell out when Kidd quit to become Blackburn manager in 1998 and their relationship has only recently begun to thaw.
Hughes was a player at United under Ferguson and Kidd when United won that Premier League title for the first time.
Kidd is credited with starting a production line of young players at Old Trafford and he has been asked to do a similar job at City.
The pair have an excellent relationship and Kidd's potential appointment underlines the manager's power at City.
Although Kidd has not been primed for a coaching role, he has been asked to improve relations between the Platt Lane academy and the first team.
His potential arrival has left the academy coaches Alex Gibson, Paul Power and Barry Poynton fearing that he is coming into the club as their new boss.
Kidd has been out of work since he performed miracles alongside Paul Hart to keep Portsmouth in the top flight last season.
He claimed the travelling distance was too much when he turned down the offer to become Paul Hart's assistant.
I'm 70/30 over this move by Hughes I mean I love to piss the rags off as much as the next guy and no doubt he will be good for our team but another ex rag? I'm 70% for it BTW as I want what's best for the team before anybody asks.

Where's it from, Vhero?
Kidd was quite popular as a player in the 70s when I started watching City.

Saw this last night, proberly not a bad move by the club and he was great for us when he was last here in the 70s. Still has HUGE rag connections though.

He's got more time under his belt as a red but let's not overlook the fact that he's an ex-City player
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_KiddI have absolutely no objection to this. If you listen to any of that "generation" of United players (Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Neville, Butt, Sharpe...) they all have, over time, raved about the role that Kidd played in developing them as players and as a coach.
He's one of those guys (like Steve Clarke) who appears to be a very talented #2 (and awful #1).
Hughes clearly knows him and must rate him. Get him on board I say

Yeah that's why I'm more leaning towards it as no doubt it's good for the team.

He was good at his job - it would be a good move for the club.

I have wanted Kidd back at city ever since he failed as a Manager. The guy is a real gent and an excellent coach, he just can't handle the pressue of the top job. I met him on many occasions as a kid when I was a member of the Junior Blues, he always took time to meet the fans and explain the rules and tactics to us youngsters. I learnt alot from him as a fan and I am sue the academy kids would benefit from his knowledge

Excellent.
Kidd coming in would be great. Vhereo, you seem a little confused - you say 'no doubt' it would be good for the team, but you don't really like it?
WTF is that all about?!

Brian Kidd, notorious rag. Brilliant.
If you read down through the thread again, you'll see that in hindsight, Vhero agreed with Tokyo (who by the way is absolutely not a twat) when he asked who gave a fuck what you thought.
Not a stab at you Ribery_Is_God, just an observation.

Bringing in Kidd has got to be a good thing, he might be a shite manager but he has more than proved jis worth iover the years as a coach of quality.
For those who are jumping on the "another rag" bandwagon...there seemed to be no problem when he was doing the business as an ex rag in a blue shirt, playing for us.
The only worry is the role he is being asked to fulfill. on the one hand, he is a link man whilst on the other it is to create a new line of youth players. I thought that job was already being taken care of...Not good if it causes unrest or destabilises the present set up.
...and what the fuck has it got to do with Taggart?
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

I'm pretty sure we'll be appointing him because he has experience of bringing through young players to top flight football and NOT because it will irritate Sir Baconface! Pretty clear that someone needs to fill the void left by Cassell so a good appointment. Also he did the business for the Blues as a player so his raggertyness shouldn't be a factor for anyone. Anyone old enough to remember him play will, in fact, almost certainly have liked him.
