Sam Allardyce says the financial fair play regulations ratified last week by Premier League chairmen could 'blow West Ham's whole deal' for Andy Carroll in 'one fell swoop'.
The rules limit the amount of television money clubs are able to spend on player fees and wages.
A deal is in place to bring the England striker, who scored at the weekend, from Liverpool to Upton Park permanently, but the new spending laws - in place for next season - mean that is no longer feasible and new terms must be negotiated if the 24-year-old is to move.
West Ham boss Allardyce said: 'The hardest thing (in the Andy Carroll deal) is the overall package to make sure it can be sustainable. I'll still point towards financial restrictions being implemented next season - they could blow the whole deal in one go.
'Financially you're restricted to be able to do it. So in one fell swoop the financial restrictions mean Andy Carroll can't sign for us from Liverpool because its too expensive. Even if he wanted to.
'Somebody will have a bigger budget than us somewhere but that's whats going to happen. in one fell swoop I might not be able to afford Andy Carroll. Full stop. Even if I wanted him, even if the chairmen wanted him, which we do, it will not be allowed to happen.
Asked if the new regulations were unfair on less wealthy clubs, Allardyce added: 'I suppose across the board when you first introduce something new the fair/unfair scenario has to get sorted out. To find out how you tweak it to make it better.
'We're not allowed to go over our budget so you say (to the player in question), "Sorry and off you go." It's very difficult to improve your side from last season.'
Haha, Hammers and Pool both voted for the ffp and we can potentially see them both scr*wed up by their own weapon.
I still don't get why some of the "smaller" clubs accepted these rules in the first place.
