How amusing is this?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2309299/West-Ham-manager-Sam-Allardyce-fears-Andy-Carroll-deal-blown-new-regulations.html#comments

Sam Allardyce says the financial fair play regulations ratified last week by Premier League chairmen could 'blow West Ham's whole deal' for Andy Carroll in 'one fell swoop'.
The rules limit the amount of television money clubs are able to spend on player fees and wages.
A deal is in place to bring the England striker, who scored at the weekend, from Liverpool to Upton Park permanently, but the new spending laws - in place for next season - mean that is no longer feasible and new terms must be negotiated if the 24-year-old is to move.

West Ham boss Allardyce said: 'The hardest thing (in the Andy Carroll deal) is the overall package to make sure it can be sustainable. I'll still point towards financial restrictions being implemented next season - they could blow the whole deal in one go.
'Financially you're restricted to be able to do it. So in one fell swoop the financial restrictions mean Andy Carroll can't sign for us from Liverpool because its too expensive. Even if he wanted to.
'Somebody will have a bigger budget than us somewhere but that's whats going to happen. in one fell swoop I might not be able to afford Andy Carroll. Full stop. Even if I wanted him, even if the chairmen wanted him, which we do, it will not be allowed to happen.

Asked if the new regulations were unfair on less wealthy clubs, Allardyce added: 'I suppose across the board when you first introduce something new the fair/unfair scenario has to get sorted out. To find out how you tweak it to make it better.
'We're not allowed to go over our budget so you say (to the player in question), "Sorry and off you go." It's very difficult to improve your side from last season.'

Haha, Hammers and Pool both voted for the ffp and we can potentially see them both scr*wed up by their own weapon.

I still don't get why some of the "smaller" clubs accepted these rules in the first place.

The question I have is this a Restriction of Trade or controvene any employment laws?

Maybe it will be a player who takes this thing to court.

I dont see why it is. A player could argue that a club, by holding out for an unrealistic transfer fee, is arguably acting in such a way as to cause restrictions on free movement, but that situation has played out thousands of times regardless of FFP. Either the club drops their demands, and the market resets itself, or the player buys himself out if he is that desperate to move.

This is an indication that FFP is a good thing, if it has the effect of bringing down transfer fees for average players. Not sure the same will be true for the top end players, but if city have ffp as a negotiating tool for cavani etc, then it is bound to be a bargaining chip to drive the price down, as city will set out a case why they cant feasibly pay £xm, and the selling club will have to take the offer or leave it.

That seems unlikely tbh. Madrid are definitely after Cavani as well and PSG loves to raid the Serie A. If they could get Cavani at a cheap(er) price, then I'm sure they would come sniffing. Don't think the price would come down if we have competition but could work if Cavani wanted to leave AND no other club was after him.

OR if come clubs had no intention of following FFP

Real Madrid, PSG and City are all in the same boat, and without substantial sales, cannot simply spend £40m on a player under FFP without a decent wedge coming in.

Sorry, you are confusing the fact that a deal has been struck, with the fiction , or opinion that average players prices might come down from their apparently inflated values.

clearly someone thought the guy was worth over 30 Liverpool paid for him.
that deal happened and seems like very bad business. it would be interesting to see how liverpool got the money together to finance that deal.

The problem is these rules, such as FFP get made under the illusion that "free markets" can / will sort it out. Ie , keep the fingers and rules off the market. However FFP has just made the market restrictive. Telling you how you can generate and spend money.

There isn't and never has been a free market .
