Maybe I missed it , but during that whole escapade at Old Trafford I didn't see Cnutenberg ever once indicate 'play on' by raising his arms in from of him. The normal way a ref should do it. So i'm not surprised that there was confusion. Perhaps even the cameras missed it, although i find that hard to believe. If it was on film , the BBC would have picked it up to prove how great united are. I really hope we don't get this tosser for a long long time.

Has Harry been charged yet?

I was listening to the radio and someone who spoke to Clattenburg after the game said that Claattenburg stated that he went over to the the lino to find out why he put his flag up and when he told him that it was due to the previous hand-ball by Nani, he decided that the goal should stand. When the bloke said he'd made an awful mistake, Clattenburg just shrugged it off and said 'it happens', or words to that effect. Astonishing!

Sorry to come back to this one ladies and gents, but I've seen nothing about 'Arry being charged and I thought it had to be done by Tuesday?

If he hasn't been charged does that then mean they are admitting that 'Arry was right and that Clattenburg made a total cock-up?

I notice he's ref'ing in the CL tonight, wonder if we'll see any dubious decisions?

Edit: A bit of a trawl and it seems he got nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Obviously called it correctly.

Harry Redknapp will not be fined by the FA for criticising referee Mark Clattenburg

The Football Association on Tuesday wrote to Harry Redknapp to warn him about his future conduct but will not formally punish the Tottenham Hotspur manager for his criticism of referee Mark Clattenburg.

Redknapp had threatened to stop doing post-match interviews if he received any sanctions from the FA but the organisation maintained on Tuesday night that this was not taken into account in its deliberations.

Instead the FA has spent the last two days gathering television footage of Redknapp’s interviews following the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday when he called Nani’s goal a “farce” and questioned the conduct of Clattenburg and the match officials.

Tottenham's Harry Redknapp threatens media strike if FA fine him for Mark Clattenburg rantThe FA also examined what Redknapp said in a newspaper column to see whether he had questioned Clattenburg’s integrity, accused him of showing bias or made any derogatory personal remarks about the officials. It was decided that Redknapp was not guilty of any of these offences.

However the FA still deemed it necessary to write to Redknapp to ask him to be mindful of his future comments. There are clear rules about what can and cannot be said regarding match officials with managers entitled to pass their opinion on a referee’s performance but limit it to that.

The decision not to punish Redknapp was expected with the FA claiming there had been a delay in making an announcement because it wanted to properly review all the available footage. It’s clear from that, apparently, that Redknapp’s comments were reasonable when taken in their full context and that he fully qualified what he said.

Interestingly the FA did not examine further comments from Redknapp about Clattenburg in Tuesday’s newspapers, regarding those as similar to what he had previously said although he did appear to go further in alluding to collusion by the officials.

“When they get in their room, and I’ve said it before, that they would always make sure that they sing from the same hymn-sheet,” Redknapp said. “Mr Clattenburg, in private, has said to somebody that I know, for a fact, that he made a mess, really. When the reports go in, all the assistants back up Mr Clattenburg.”

Redknapp warned he would not speak to the media again if he was punished. With United leading 1-0, Nani scored with Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes believing he was about to take a free-kick. However Clattenburg allowed the goal claiming he had played on after an apparent handball by Nani which prompted a furious reaction from Spurs and Redknapp.

Clattenburg has been reffing Auxere v Ajax tonight. Have a look at Auxere's winning goal if you can. It might remind you of another game.

It was always going to happen wasnt it? He really is a fuckin clown of a ref.

It bugs the shit out of me, that those who defend him always say " letter of the law", but if you reffed to the letter of the law for the whole 90 mins we would end up playing 7 a side with about 10 pens per game. Personally, I just think he likes to be the centre of attention.

Similar to the nani incident, auxerre player thought he was fouled, deliberately pulled the ball back with his hand, got up and immediately slotted it through to a team mate who then scored. Clattenburg just smiled

Cheers...Not really sure how I should react to that. Laugh? Cry? Or just wonder whether Clattenberg is corrupt or inadquate for the job?

You would think that he would have learnt...he is either stupid or arrogant....Possibly both

I am a bit of sucker in the fact I dont want to believe that any ref would deliberately cheat as I think it would mar my love for the game, but with this bloke you do have to wonder. I just think that he thinks he is the most important person on the pitch.

It was offside as well. Not that I mind seeing Ajax losing, but still...

Just watched the Auxerre/Ajax incident and it looks ok to me. Player was fouled, grabbed the ball as he fell, and took a quick free kick that the referee permitted, and from that passage of play they scored. Surely that's the point of taking a quick free kick. Fair enough.

Looked fine to me too and I don't think it was offside either with the right full back in line . Anyway that's the linesman's job not the refs.

I only saw the back-end of it last night, did Clattenburg blow for the free-kick or did the player take the lead?

I have just seen him an hour ago, here in Bucharest and we had a little chat. He is the ref in tonight's game in EL between Steaua and Twente and he was with the other refs, drinking a cup of tea with the others in the old center, here in town. I approached him, just to wish him luck and i asked him about Silva''s pen at Chelsea. He smiled and said he made a mistake. I think he got a little scared when he saw my co-worker who was with me (he is 6.4) otherwise i don't know why he answerd so quick.
Irl he doesn't look like such a big cunt.
