Top four is a minimum, regardless of the FA Cup. Silverware is fantastic for fans who haven't won jack shit for years, but top four is THE minimum requirement for the owners and the future of this project.
Also, people seem to toss the entertainment factor to one side far too easily IMO. Fair enough, you all know at this stage that I'm for entertainment first and foremost - its why I got into football - but more importantly, our owners took the club over and want to turn it into the most successful club on the planet because they want to promote the fact that there's a lot to come from the middle east besides war and oil... whatever the actual reason is, they want City to be represented in the best possible light and us turning out sheer dross most of the time will not wash with them for very long.
They are not stupid and know that success takes time, as do most of us, but there is no hard rule that you must first play dross football to achieve this.
That's how I've always felt about it. I know I'm in a small minority but just the fact of winning trophies won't be enough for me in the long term. I want to enjoy watching City & I rarely do. I don't think it will suffice for the owner either, as you say. If we continue to be dull, it will actually breed more Utd fans than City fans around the world as they will become the swashbuckling heroes to battle our functional machine.
I can see a situation thouigh, where Mourinho will be offered the job (again) as much for his image as for his success record; a face to front the 'project'. I don't like that thought. In his latest interview he sounds as if he wants to put down roots in England but he certainly doesn't sound to me as if he's going to chuck in Real now, so by the time he's available Bob's contract may be coming to an end anyway & everything may be in place for him to choose between us & the rags.
I think, tbf though, Bob will try to play decent football next season, he has succeeded sometimes this season imo but my big question is whether he's capable of sustaining it. I'm 50/50 on that.
Interestingly Keys & Gray are just talking about Pep Guardiola likely coming to England. If it was up to me, I'd kick out Bob or Mourinho for him & leave him in charge, even if he won fuck all for his 1st five years. I don't give a fuck about the rest of it.
