If you can put any partisan politics aside for a moment, then you can maybe see that the City group is trying to expand the brand in China. It would have been closer to #10 Downing St, to simply visit the megapriced Emirates Stadium, Wembley, or the Olympics Stadium. Or, Cameron & Xi Jinping could have chosen to visit the stadiums of Aston Villa, West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool, or even Old Ratford, instead!

The City campus is being shown to the leader of China, as both an example of football excellence, for the future and positive investment in England! Please put your own personal politics aside for a second and maybe we can be proud that City was chosen out of all the PL teams, as the best representative of British football.

They were keen for them to visit Manchester and places like the Graphene Institute where Huawei announced a partnership today, but there was no need to visit City. But football has been made compulsory in Chinese schools and the PL is huge there, so this is a big win for Manchester and City. It shows how close the partnership between the council and the club is, as they've given access to City to possibly the most powerful man on earth and given us publicity in the world's biggest market.

But I still don't know what we'll do when the sheikh gets bored

I love that he was "unremarkable" for City and meanwhile he had over 100 appearances and is a cult hero which has nothing to do with his race but his attitude.

Nothing wrong with rewarding him for being the first or the most prominently featured Chinese player in the Prem during the era.

Sure it's a marketing story but what else is the fucking Hall of Fame? It's not actual sainthood and fucking sin absolution.

You'd have to say the lad and a few others around that time opened the doors to Asian player influence and furthered globalization in a major way. Doubtful that the TV deals look like they do now without our Sun busting a gut and getting some cards. Fuclers.

Cheers

Yuk, hate it when I agree with you so wholeheartedly, stop it. Sun's efforts were awesome and he'll always be a hero in my eyes. Remember when he did his knee badly while marking Lampard out of a game and he lay there in agony but was saying "just give me a minute..."

As for the visit, well there are few people on the planet more partisan about politics than me, let alone on this forum, and I don't actually have a problem with it. Our club is owned by a member of an unelected ruling monarchy but we welcome his investment and the business acumen that has come with it. It would be hypocritical to not welcome us being open to visits from those in power both at home and from global superpowers. Sometimes you have to be bi-partisan in politics for the good of the community, as demonstrated by the Labour council facilitating such a visit. However unpleasant the smell and taste might be...

Will this boost the profile of the club in Asia
Will we gain more fans as a result
Will we gain more more from commercial activities in China
Does it feel good for the rags to be snubbed

The answer to all questions is yes.

Therefore it can only be a good thing

I totally agree with your comment & others, like the one from nottsblue

This event was more about City being shown off, as a positive business example. Our City campus was applauded, as a model for foreign & local investment, in revitalising Manchester & educating current & future footballers.

Aside from City getting all the attention, just before the derby, it was wonderful to see Sun Jihai being added to the Hall of Fame, for his excellent work, as a worldwide football ambassador.

If anyone from the City group gets "bored," they will simply look to partner or sponsor more teams, possibly like Mancini's Inter, as a way of expanding the City brand!

I loved this perfect summation, from Wonderwall...

Wonder if people so precious about this fella have ever heard of Mao?

Wonder how China would hold together in a nice cosy democracy?
