No. But what do you prefer, to be stuck indoors because it's raining or out on the beach having a bbq?

First of all, I have lived and worked in Spain for over two years. It's not all beaches, they don't tend to have barbecues and the coldest places are colder than Manchester in winter. (I used to work in Valladolid and I would walk to work in December-February and it'd be about -9c.) Finally, I have no idea what you mean by 'far more cultural', but your average Spanish provincial city has far fewer cultural attractions than Manchester.

In any case, I don't think a young lad from Chile is going to pick his next move based on art galleries or Baroque cathedral facades.

I think the point is a south american player would identify with the culture and "slot in" far easier in spain

and if anyone would argue that barcelano or madrid don't have enourmous cultural value then you are a fool sir

I was once stung by a jellyfish in a beach in Barcelona. Not nice.

"Much nicer place to live" is quite subjective, don't you think? I prefer not too cold nor not too warm weather myself. I love it when things generally work efficiently. I've spent time in both Manchester and Barcelona (obviously muchos more in Manchester but anyway) and I would much MUCH rather live in Manchester than Barcelona. No offense to Spaniards and Spain lovers here but that'd just be MY personal preference.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I've lived and worked in Madrid, spent a fair bit of time in Barcelona. Both cities are beautiful (particularly Barcelona) and have a number of monuments of great historical interest etc bla bla bla.

That's not the point I was making. I was taking issue with the 'beaches and culture' cliché. Most Spanish cities - even Madrid in my opinion - are much less culturally diverse than Manchester. That's why I love it - you go there and you do as the Romans do. It's not just another cosmopolitan metropolis.

I've visited these places and Barcelona is a beautiful place. We all love Manchester but what does it have over Barcelona? A lot more rain, a lot more chavs? Foreigners in the PL often complain enormously about the Manchester weather and lifestyle
Plus at Barcelona he'll be playing week in week out in the best stadium in world football, for the greatest team in the world.

LMAO about what this thread has turned into. Where is better to live Manchester or Barcelona who knows. Tell you one thing though if I was born in Argentina and grew up in that climate and could speak the language I would probably prefer to live in Spain over England and the fact that the worlds greatest football team might be willing to take me there would be great.

Can't remember who but someone said if Sanchez had snubbed us we would have fucked him off. Hats off to you sir the deal is still very much alive!

Of course it's important. A south American is always gonna find it easier to settle into a country such as Spain than Britain and that can have a big impact on his decision.

I love it how we always talk about "South Americans" as some sort of homogenous group yet get offended when Americans call everyone in Europe "Europeans".

I do it too.

Exactly.

I'm English, my fiancée is from the States, but I feel less foreign in Spain than I do in America.

I like how the discussion has conveniently shifted from culture to language. Didn't get a satisfactory explanation for the Spain being 'more cultural' than Manchester claim.

But if he signs for City, he'll be in Manchester & he'll have to fucking lump it so it's not important.

What's important is whether, if our bid is accepted & Barca's isn't, Sanchez is willing to sign for City. So far he must have given us reason to think he would do that or we wouldn't be wasting our time on it. If we go through all this & then he suddenly say 'Oh I'm not going there' we should send the boys round & chuck him out of the fucking hotel window.

But I am in a position to decide having lived in both Manchester and Spain. You are not. See how impressed you are with the Spanish way after the Ministry of Education have failed to pay you on time for the fourth consecutive month. It's not all sun, sea and sand. It's not like being on holiday for your entire fucking life.

There's also nothing remotely cultural about 'the mountains' or 'the beaches'.

Exactly.

People always go on holiday and think "isn't this nice, beer is cheap and weather is fantastic". But if you actually live somewhere, it's whole different thing. You got to go to work and pay your bills just like everyone else. "Great weather" may not be so great when you are stuck in traffic jam on your suit trying to get to work. "Laidback lifestyle" may not be as fantastic as you thought when you were on holidays when you are trying to get to doctor early in the morning with your kid suffering from ear infection.

There was Gary Lineker - used to go and visit museums and art galleries when he was on tour, and made a point of learning Catalan when he played for Barcelona. The exception though (didn't some West Brom players once decline a trip to the Great Wall of China when they were over there by saying if you've seen one wall, ... etc.) As for Sanchez, after the mess City got into with Robinho they must have sounded out whether this lad could adapt to life in England because the last thing we need is another moaning prima donna. But if that's what he's likely to become City would be better off bringing Mata from Valenica and having David Silva mentor him.

Barcelona more cultural than Manchester? No. There is culture everywhere. Just a different culture - that you may or may not value above what you can find in Manc. I see that as an individual's decision and arguing would be pointless.

Zabaleta and Silva must be ok with it. No toys flying out of their prams.

The Guyanese are South Americans, by the way. English-speaking.
