Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I really don't understand all this "Ireland has only had one good season" stuff. He has given City good service for quite a number of seasons.
He has only had one AMAzING season...and if the it is good that we have the patience to work with Micah and try and nurture him, why is it not a good idea to have patience to work with Stevie and nurture him back to his high class form of a couple of seasons ago.
...and if he had a great season followed by a average season last year, why does that mean he will never attain that high quality again and some believe?
Sorry Fu but can you give me examples of all of his mental weakness on the field?
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT

That Ireland/Ronalo nonsense made me think. People still think the bloke is 18 years old & promising. He's a year and a half younger than Ronaldo, that's all!
Compare the 4 years previous to last season with Ronaldo's & for a CREATIVE PLAYER (which everyone who rates him tells me he is rather than a worker), the difference is absolutely astronomical. He just isn't a world class creative player & never will be, he's an all rounder & needs to get his head round that or he'll disappear up his own arse.

To be fair in the first season Ireland got a starting spot for City he was more influential than Ronaldo for United in his first season.
I just don't rate Milner that highly and think he as well is living off one "great" season. Difference for me is Ireland's potential is higher, hes a city boy, plays in a central playmaker role that we don't really have another of. There's several Milner's already in the team, don't see the value of having him over Ireland.

I couldn't agree more with you John.
I'm a very confused over why people think he couldn't get back to form of seasons before last. Last season he had loads of injuries and never got going because of that.
I'm equally confused why people think he doesn't have on the pitch mental strength. Because he likes ugly cars? Because he gets shocked when his missus gets a miscarriage? I genuinely don't understand. I can't ever recall him sulking on the pitch. But I suppose it's one of those things where people want to believe what shitty tabloids write.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I don't particularly rate milner as compared to say Gerrard or someone of that level but many top experts do. He was one of the best in the PL last season, just as Ireland was the season before.
The difference, imo, is that Milner knows & accepts what his job is & Ireland doesn't. The difference between Superman Ireland & the below average player we had in all other seasons is, imo, workrate. If Ireland puts that effort in every week, he'll have a great career & probably move up to Arsenal or the rags. I've only seen him try that hard in one season though, the rest of the time he's been half hearted, like he was v the rags last season, even as a sub.

Maybe Ted. But last season and in pre-season I got the impression of a man putting in a lot of work but not making any headway. The ball just passes him by completely when the other team has it. Not good enough - end of. All this debate mystifies me.
Some people are using RSC's 'one good season' as a stick to beat him with, yet apparently Ireland's one good season is a sign he is a world class player.

agree completely with john.. just cant see how you can write a player off with Irelands qualities. I would agree it may be a gamble or whatever but writing him off just seems illogical and more an expression of not really liking him as a person or player imo.
The main point is that we can't do anything about it.. Bob is the one who has to be happy about his team and Bob is the one forced to choose 25.
Personally im done arguing about stuff that is already history. Mancini has or is nailing his colours to the mast, he has got what he wants apparently, has heaped no end of pressure on himself, which he seems happy about, so fucxl it let him get on with it and hope that he is going to deliver otherwise he will need fire retardant shoes.

One word Antti, FLAIR. A lot of City fans just cannot stand players that have it. They are dying to have an excuse to hate them. Remember when I was spending my days and nights arguing simultaneously with dozens of people because I preferred Ireland to Barton? These people will never be happy unless we find a way to win the league with eleven skinhead cloggers...

The 'Superman' Ireland would not have allowed a 97 year old rag to run away from him & score the winner in a Derby. The pre-'Superman' Ireland would. For one season, he had a bit of 'devil' about him, steamed in & took the ball off people etc. Before & after that he's had a feather up his arse.

Big pay rise, fishtanks, cars? Not joking - in his case it could be the sort of thing that has done it. Subconsciously.

I suppose it could have been the alleged heart palp or the fishtanks! Mancini doesn't seem to think he's back to being 'Superman' though, in spite of having a good look at him pre season.

He had several injuries, wasn't given a lot of gametime and was being played out of position to be fair.
I think the bottom line is Mancini doesn't appreciate players with creativity and flair, there's probably no room for guys like him and Robinho in his team.

Be a shame to see Stevie go but if it means getting Milner I don't think we are doing as bad as some say out of the deal.To me Milner is the better player.
And I don't think that us getting Gareth has been bad at all, Bobby has picked him consistently during his tenure which suggests our manager is happy with what he is seeing from him.
So that Villa deal was alright in my opinion as I think this one will be.
