He has only had one AMAzING season...and if the it is good that we have the patience to work with Micah and try and nurture him, why is it not a good idea to have patience to work with Stevie and nurture him back to his high class form of a couple of seasons ago.
...and if he had a great season followed by a average season last year, why does that mean he will never attain that high quality again and some believe?
Sorry Fu but can you give me examples of all of his mental weakness on the field?

I just don't rate Milner that highly and think he as well is living off one "great" season. Difference for me is Ireland's potential is higher, hes a city boy, plays in a central playmaker role that we don't really have another of. There's several Milner's already in the team, don't see the value of having him over Ireland.

I don't particularly rate milner as compared to say Gerrard or someone of that level but many top experts do. He was one of the best in the PL last season, just as Ireland was the season before.
The difference, imo, is that Milner knows & accepts what his job is & Ireland doesn't. The difference between Superman Ireland & the below average player we had in all other seasons is, imo, workrate. If Ireland puts that effort in every week, he'll have a great career & probably move up to Arsenal or the rags. I've only seen him try that hard in one season though, the rest of the time he's been half hearted, like he was v the rags last season, even as a sub.

I couldn't agree more with you John.
I'm a very confused over why people think he couldn't get back to form of seasons before last. Last season he had loads of injuries and never got going because of that.
I'm equally confused why people think he doesn't have on the pitch mental strength. Because he likes ugly cars? Because he gets shocked when his missus gets a miscarriage? I genuinely don't understand. I can't ever recall him sulking on the pitch. But I suppose it's one of those things where people want to believe what shitty tabloids write.

Maybe Ted. But last season and in pre-season I got the impression of a man putting in a lot of work but not making any headway. The ball just passes him by completely when the other team has it. Not good enough - end of. All this debate mystifies me.
Some people are using RSC's 'one good season' as a stick to beat him with, yet apparently Ireland's one good season is a sign he is a world class player.

The 'Superman' Ireland would not have allowed a 97 year old rag to run away from him & score the winner in a Derby. The pre-'Superman' Ireland would. For one season, he had a bit of 'devil' about him, steamed in & took the ball off people etc. Before & after that he's had a feather up his arse.

I think the bottom line is Mancini doesn't appreciate players with creativity and flair, there's probably no room for guys like him and Robinho in his team.

What utter tripe, he was a flair player himself! Seems to appreciate AJ enough too and has just bought Silva...
