No we were definitely in the Coca Cola world series championships phase two and phase three a little while back. A lot of people blamed Coach Stuart but the roster we had was whack!

Just sayin'

I was at a crossroads in my life but it was the signing of Robinho that swung it for me.

They were indeed the shit bro. That gold Puma emblem, and I personally had BRESCIANO 25 emblazoned across the back of mine. He's my favourite white, bald defensive left footed midfielder of all time. DaMarcus is a close second of course.

In a way I feel as though, even though it's a bit pathetic, there's more to be admired in someone who comes right out and says 'I never used to be a City fan, but they play great football blah blah and I became one' to someone who's blatantly lying about being a lifelong fan. Most of the people I see around work now wouldn't even know what Maine Road is, or the significance of an inflatable banana, or 2-1 to Mansfield Town refers to, and yet about half of them have allegedly been blues for 20 years.

It's a consequence of success, though. And I'd rather having to put up with a truckload of glory hunters than turn up to watch a 'solid right flank' of Sun Jihai and Vassell trip over the ball.

Funny u mention Scandinavians, but going back to the old 3rd division and at least 3/4 years before that, i remember a group of Norweigens normally about 8 or 10 of them coming to all the home games, flying, hotel and they always had a really good night out, must of been real expensive for them, but they loved it! (not always the same guys, i think some sort of supporters club and they took it in turns) Then again in those days it was probably so much cheaper than a night out in Norway! I remember Sweden 1992 and it used to cost me a fiver for a pint or £4 for a bottle of larger!

There is quite a large branch from Norway. You will always see a Norwegian flag hanging from the second tier of the west stand that belongs to a member on here.

Is it the same Branch? I always used to think them crazy!!!!! They were travelling thousands of miles to watch (lets face it) hopeless football, I hope it is, as they can at least go back home with a smile on their faces, and a spring in their step!

A few years back, if I was watching a City game in a pub, I always got into conversations with British fans from other teams. They always thought it was funny that I supported City, wanted to know why, how it started, etc.
Now when I open my mouth and they hear I'm not Manc, they just look at me with contempt and immediately write me off as a bandwagoner.

Ive experienced the same thing. Theres an increasing suspiciousness amongst cityfans, especially towards foreign fans.

What i dont get is why long time fans would want to prohibit newer supporters? Nothing, really nothing can take away the fact that theyll enjoy this ride more than newcomers. Because they were there during the grim times, the contrast will be bigger. Enjoy it ffs and stop worrying about the authenticity of other fans.

Indeed. I could not agree more with these two posts.

I have converted several locals here and they are what they are.

I can't fucking stand snobbishness in any of its forms.

To my fellow blues, our new fans need to be welcomed, embraced and most importantly, educated. The Brisbane OSC has a good
Ix of old fans and new. At most gatherings the oldies impart the knowledge of what it is to be a city fan. To be humble, impeccable, and to always, ALWAYS, leave 5 minutes before the end.

Go forth my friends, get out there and spread the word. Our flock needs you to do your bit.

This thread isnt about welcoming new fans, old fans and even i used to be a rag but now im a blue fans

They are all welcome, the more the merrier.... in fact they're not just welcome they are essential - Unless we attract more fans, increase revenues etc etc we will eventually be stifled by the new financial fair play stuff.

I love converting neutrals and Frogs to the Blue Church

What pissed me off is the lifelong fans bit - I remember at school in the 60s - I had moved to birmingham by then and loads of class mates suddenly started pretending they had supported Leeds since they were sperm. Then it was all scouse fans and then they all turned into life long rags - more recently - living in surrey all of a sudden every fucler in my local became a life long chelski fans - now its us.... these Walter Mitty wanabes, the ones who actually lie about their allegiance to city over the last few decades, the ones who make up shit about what their loyalty to the club - they piss me off - they piss me off a lot

Agree 100% with Patrick.

The more the merrier, absolutely. But we've been getting tons of people on this site and in real life who are all of the sudden lifelong Blues who for some reason only came out yesterday. I have all the time in the world for people who will say "I recently discovered City and now I'm trying to find out everything I can about them". I don't know why people would say they are lifelong Blues though.

I mean this site has been around for what, over ten years? I can understand that not everyone would've found this place immediately but surely somewhere along the line as a lifelong Blue you would've googled "Manchester City+message board", right?
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Tbh it took me years before deciding to even bother looking to see if such a place existed, then even longer to actually come & annoy people on here; I never used to really consider the option of swearing at people in cyberspace. I think (you'll love this!) it was Norwegian rags who 1st put me onto this & other sites by printing out various jokes/insults about Utd for my enjoyment. Then sometime later I stumbled opon it again & decided to have a look.

Yeah, but it was some random event that made you join, some completely random time, right? And I'm sure many of the people joining now claiming to be lifelong Blues are that but let's be honest here.... for years we had few active posters coming in every now and then but now we are being flooded with new members.

And one more time, so that I'm not misunderstood, everyone is welcome. Old and new Blues. Everyone. I just hope people come as they are and don't feel need to pretend to be something they are not. No one has ever been forced away and we even once upon a time had rag turned blue posting here. Granted, he turned out to be complete rag fuck in the end but he was given chance.

Like you say, there's nothing to be gained by pretending; I'm sure I speak for almost all City fans in saying that we will respect people more if they are honest.

I went to Everton games until i was 10, kits and all. Started supporting city at the start of the 99 season.

Everyone has their own story of how they began supporting a football team, its a shame mine started off with the wrong shade of blue. I do have a slight sense of relief that i began supporting City at their lowest, just to bat away the comments i get everyday now.

Im happy that we have so many new fans. Girls look fucking ace in City strips.

That wasn't the lowest - that had a promotion and trip to Wembley and therefore classes as one of the best seasons of the last 30 years. Watching us slip to that position with 157 managers in a 4 week period was the low.

Bloody glory hunter.

In some ways it's easier to support City now, as there's something to enjoy. However, there is the jealousy and hatred from other fans which will only get worse. It won't matter if you starts supporting them in 1911 or 2011, we'll all get tarred with the same brush, so there's no point us turning on fellow fans - as long as they're supporting the team, especially when it inevitably goes pear shaped, they're ok in my book.

Haha fair point. I think the point I was getting at is that I held very little expectation for success.

Speaking of low points.... I had a penalty saved by Moonchester at Maine road on my first ever trip as a kid. Slimy cunt!
