No matter what Barry does in his career now, in ten years time all I will remember from him was being shown up to be out of his depth at against Germany in the World Cup. They played fast flowing counter attacking football which he simply could not live with. It was that game that showed me that he will never play at the highest table of football.
I recall the race between him and Ozil for Germany's 4th goal. At first I thought he was playing for offside, or that he had torn a hamstring.
A game in which he was exposed by the rest of team of the team providing no cover and a game in which he wasn't fully fit.
But yeah, remember him for one game for England and not for winning three trophies with City
A game during which he wasn't even half fit & was the only fucking person in the team (plus that pair of utter fucking wankers Pearce & Capello), who had the intelligence to realise that if every cunt goes up for a corner against a team like germany, it is fucking suicide. So half fit Barry, rather than hiding up in the German penalty are like very other twat, reads the problem & puts his half fit body up against someone with 5 yards more pace, to try & rescue the situation, whilst the manager & assistant are too busy worrying about bringing on Emile Fucking Heskey.
And yes, Barry's reward for putting the team first, is to get the fucking blame for the whole thing for the rest of his life.
Utterly sickening but true.
Gareth Barry, a player who wasn't fit prior to the tournament but was so important to the England plan that they were prepared to take him injured/recovering. They know he is well off the pace hoping he'd get upto speed and actually got a cold/virus during the tournament but they still insisted on playing him.
I love my national game but when they hung him out, knowing the circumstances, was the last straw for me. He wasn't just a scapegoat for England, it was a scapegoat laid down against us as a club. Promotions and shirt sales were the priority, saving face for the likes of Rooney, Lampard etc.
Always watch but will never have the same emotion until someone brings back some integrity to the English National team.
