Nope- didn't move to an English club until he was 26- youth career in Canada and Germany.

We have empty spaces in the squad which can either be filled or left empty. RSC wouldn't get a game now even if he was 100% fit. Hargreaves would, he'd start.

Provided that he is on the same footballing level he was back in 2006. He's 30 years old and has only played 27 games since coming back to England in 2007 ...

True but if that wasn't the case, he'd be playing for the rags. I'm not expecting him to be the player he was but I'm expecting that IF FIT he will have good intelligence on the pitch (as he will have been watching a lot of football ) & once he gets up to match pace, he can pass, tackle, shoot & score free kicks. He could also have a good engine, even if the pace isn't as good as it was. He could afford to lose a couple of yards & still beat Nige or Gareth in a sprint too.

I agree that it is / could be a smart move by the management as back up to de Jong / Barry / Yaya. But I really doubt that he would be a strarter even when fully fit. It takes time getting the touch and the pace back, when being out for that long. And de Jong isn't that slow.

No, that's correct, I thought he was eligible under one of those rules but no. We will still have a squad space though so far as I can remember when I last looked.

Just played a Lescott interview on Talkshite & he's talking as if Hargreaves is signing. Presenters recon he must have had a text.

can you be england international and not considered homegrown according to FA rules? Would be madness and therefore unsuprising

Same way Johnny Macken is not the Irish equivalant of "homegrown"

Yes, it's all about where you were between 15 & 21, so I think Clichy is 'homegrown' but not Hargreaves!

Perhaps. They may have also seen him be one of the best players in two Champions League winning sides.

It's pretty hard to imagine him capturing that form again but I dont see any down sides to this deal.

Took some time to read his interview on the Daily Mail website after hearing the news. I love his desire and really like the fact he doesn't use football agents (wish all footballers would do that). He seems like a really good bloke. However, I can't see him recovering to play premiership standard football. I wish him all the best but his body, especially his knees, have let him down.

We have zero to lose. He offered to play on at United for free so I can't see that we'd offer much dough....especially if he's unavilable. He clearly wants to play football and he was quoted this week as saying he has a "massive chip" on his shoulder at having missed so much action and having gotten shit in the press etc etc.

He will want to prove himself and he will massively want to shove it up their communal red holes.

A potential masterstroke. hahahaha

Here is the interview that you were talking about. He seems very hungry, just got to see if he can follow through

If he comes off the bench and scores the winning goal in a derby then doesnt kick a ball for the rest of time with us ala Owen then it will all be worth it.

Let's hope no one coughs near him. I thought rumours of Scott Parker were bad, but...

This reminds me of the days we used to sign idiots like Fowler and McManaman.

We signed both of those players in hope they would be our best players. In reality both were using us to top up their bank balances and had zero hunger.

I dont think Hardgreaves is anything like them. He needs us more than we need him.

After reading that I want him to sign for us and I want him to succeed with us and win a title. What tremendous attitude from Hargreaves!

You could make a cracking film out of it if he does succeed.. Jimmy Grimble esk.
