We have empty spaces in the squad which can either be filled or left empty. RSC wouldn't get a game now even if he was 100% fit. Hargreaves would, he'd start.

True but if that wasn't the case, he'd be playing for the rags. I'm not expecting him to be the player he was but I'm expecting that IF FIT he will have good intelligence on the pitch (as he will have been watching a lot of football ) & once he gets up to match pace, he can pass, tackle, shoot & score free kicks. He could also have a good engine, even if the pace isn't as good as it was. He could afford to lose a couple of yards & still beat Nige or Gareth in a sprint too.

I agree that it is / could be a smart move by the management as back up to de Jong / Barry / Yaya. But I really doubt that he would be a strarter even when fully fit. It takes time getting the touch and the pace back, when being out for that long. And de Jong isn't that slow.

Yes, it's all about where you were between 15 & 21, so I think Clichy is 'homegrown' but not Hargreaves!

Love how people claiming Hargreaves is some kind of world beater have probably only seen a handful of his matches. Probably when he played well for England.

Perhaps. They may have also seen him be one of the best players in two Champions League winning sides.

It's pretty hard to imagine him capturing that form again but I dont see any down sides to this deal.

Took some time to read his interview on the Daily Mail website after hearing the news. I love his desire and really like the fact he doesn't use football agents (wish all footballers would do that). He seems like a really good bloke. However, I can't see him recovering to play premiership standard football. I wish him all the best but his body, especially his knees, have let him down.

He clearly wants to play football and he was quoted this week as saying he has a "massive chip" on his shoulder at having missed so much action and having gotten shit in the press etc etc.

He will want to prove himself and he will massively want to shove it up their communal red holes.
