In McClaren's case it's not just that though. He is quite poor and tactically very naive manager. McClaren got England job only because of the campaign that they should have English manager and I actually felt sorry for him as I know from the beginning, as did most other football following people with no political agenda, that it'd turn messy.
I think it showcased just how poor McClaren was tactically that he was probably Middlesbrough's most succesfull manager ever, yet they were happy to see back of him.
One thing he does well though is surround himself with people who are million miles better in their jobs than McClaren himself. That often brings certain level of improvement even if his teams are horrible to watch. That, I suppose, is talent itself. But if they think that McClaren is going to come in and take them up for sure next year, they are wrong .
