Players Planning To Boycott The 'Lets Kick It Out' Campaign

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Players Planning To Boycott The 'Lets Kick It Out' Campaign

Postby King Kev » Fri Oct 19, 2012 10:28 am

Absolutely ridiculous!

A group of players will refuse to wear 'Lets Kick It Out' T-Shirts this weekend in protest over what they perceive as a lack of action from the group in combating racism!

So, rather than throw their support behind an organisation that is struggling to battle a major problem in the game, they have chosen to turn their backs on the group because they haven't done enough!

What sort of backward fucked up logic is that!!

Why is he talking about black players only? Does he not know racism isn't ONLY against black people?

As I said in the bollox, it could be amusing as Baconface is questioning Roberts decision and having an underhand dig at him and calling him a sheep (at least he didn't call him a monkey eh)

"If everyone believes in it you should do it together, we shouldn't have sheep wandering off, I think it gives the wrong message. All the players are wearing it. I have only heard that Jason Roberts is different. But he is very different: he plays a game and is in the studio 20 minutes after it. That is a great privilege."

eh, sorry Slur Alex, all the players are not doing it ... your own Camel has said he'll do the same .... ha ha ha

Anything that can be done to combat the problem is welcome by me.

I think they have a point. Just saying it's unwelcome clearly isnt enough.

Bit slow to catch up aren't they? Lescott has been blazing a trail on this for a few years now.

Near the end of this article Joleon speaks about his experience with racism in football and how he felt let down by the system.

think it sends a strong message.
It's not about fookin t-shirts and slogans, it's about behaviours and the campaign is worthy but right now a statement needs to be made that wearing the slogan doesn't then give you free rein to behave any way you like (john)

I think they have a point.

How long has this campaign been going on, yet how much difference has it made other than people waving banners around ?

The people who take any notice of it, are those who don't need it in the first place. Those who really need to change, are not responding to it at all & even the football governing bodies of many countries, plus UEFA, are trying to sweep it under the carpet rather than deal with it.

You only have to look at the situation with Porto & City; we received a bigger UEFA fine for being a bit late for kick off, than Porto did for allowing their fans to racially abuse our players without any attempt to stop them (then seeking to cover it up).

Kick it Out is a campaining charity to promote awareness, Roberts is an attention seeker at the best of times and going against an organisation such as this shouldnt be confused with him caring about racial abuse, more to promote his own image further IMHO. Its easy for him to turn round and say it's not doing what it should be doing (and it is assisted by the Premier League and FA along with the PFA) and it no doubt has conflicts of interest somewere down the line - so maybe he should be behined the campaing more - pumping his own time and money into it so it doesn't have reliance on football's governing bodies and activly change the charity from the inside?

Did "Let's kick it out" make any comment about events in Serbia? If not then they have a point. Many battles have been won against racism in football, but the war can still be lost. You won't win such a war by silence or empty gestures.

If I was a black footballer, & subject to that kind of shit, this discussion would be irrelevant as I would have walked off well before now. Plus, if I was captain of a team & my players were subject to it, I would take them off.

If all players, irrespective of race, supported the black lads, & just refused to play, there would be no more racism in football grounds, end of. FIFA would find a way of stopping it, as it would start to hurt them in the area where they truly care; the pocket.

agree with al that our Ted says, plus I think that JR and others are right to flag up the lack of effectivness of the campaign.. even if they are trying to do something clearly it isn't enough or the right thing.. so if this just makes more people aware of the lack of results then that has to be good.

"If Danny Rose, who I think acted excellently in the whole thing, and his team-mates walk off the pitch when they first hear racist abuse, guaranteed Uefa will start to change things."

THIS!

still, it must be said that UK is probably, along with Scandinavian Countries and The Netherland the only place in Europe where the issue is rightly perceived as a Public Offence and that would also explain why UEFA is always so fucking ludicrous when the time to react comes.

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

Racism is horrific...but it is only one of the "isms" that infect football. Racism has a high profile because over the last forty odd years, bit by bit and very slowly, (far too slowly at first), the number of black players in the game has increased, as has their power and standing within the game and consequently the strength of their voice. Compared to the situation that existed in the 60s, Racism against black players has diminished quite considerably and great gains (though not yet enough) have been made.

Asian players? The Prem is full of players from all over the globe but how many of the football mad, British born youngsters of Asian heritage play in the game?.

...and to chuck another log on the fire to burn another "ism", what about gay players? Statistically, the game should be full of players who able to be open about their sexual leanings but how many gay players have ever had the courage to face the barrage of abuse that would face them if they ever came out?

Maybe, football should stop patting itself on the back with selective indignant outrage about racism and actually attempt to create a sport that is truly open to all.

I'd like to know why the fuck a white uber cunt of a rasher chop feels he can preach to those that this is affecting?

I think the events of the week have broke the camels (no pun intended) back with regard to Roberts etc. Those scenes in Serbia were a disgrace. It's OK to have awareness by wearing T-shirts and promoting nice signs around the pitch but it's actions that speak louder than words. Dealing with the Saurez incident was a start but then somewhat undermined by the Terry decision. Then with England actually being charged after some Serb's (I say some as I do not believe they are all the same) provoked a near riot was only going to lead to deep distrust in the process.

Back to Sir Alex Ferguson though, that is Sir by the way. How can he tell a person who has been affected by this, how to react? I'm not sure how to view it as it seems like those comments have taken the issue back a decade or two; in his mind anyway.

"At the press conference yesterday I spoke to the press about it. It is embarrassing for me. He will be dealt with, no doubt about that," Ferguson told Sky Sports in reference to Rio.

Ferguson underlined his annoyance on the club's website.

"I'm disappointed. We did that in support of the PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) and every player in the country should have adhered to that.

"We're all wearing the badges and he goes and lets us all down. We'll deal with it, don't worry."

You're disapointed because he decided to act for himself, and now we don't have to worry because 'you'll deal with it'. What a complete and utter tosser who has turned the whole racism issue into a minor dispute between him and his player.

I am no Ferdinand lover, or Roberts, but these people felt they had a genuine and ongoing grievance and one man who has probably never experienced anything that these individuals have had to endure decides to tell them they are wrong. It's quite unbelievable to be honest.
