Was over for a scoring debut by Samaras. Didn’t quite amount to what I hoped.

Richard Edghill had a tremendous debut away to West Ham. It was live on Sky and I recall Andy Gray saying it was one of the best debuts he'd ever seen.

He never went shit though. He had a tough time when bellends started to abuse him at Maine Road but he came good under Royle and later with Keegan at RWB.

Can’t forget his top bins penalty against Gillingham either.

Mangala had the arsehole costa in his pocket on his debut. Mind you he did have good games after that as well, most notably v PSG, if memory serves.

He had Zlatan in his pocket against PSG in that match if I remember correctly.

It was a joy to watch. The arrogant twat was very quiet after the match.

Jim Tolmie. Didn't go completely crap but looked less and less like Keegan as the season went on.

Leftfield but wasnt Claudio reyna a magician on his debut? He never "turned shit" but not sure he delivered to what I expected every week.

Add Buster Phillips to that list.

Heard a podcast recently where an ex-pro said Lee Croft turned up at Oldham about 5 stone overweight.

Biggest player for me that just didn’t fulfill potential was Stevan Jovetić. Guy was class in Italy.

I was at the Coventry game where he scored an own goal in the opening minutes, and Bellamy ran rings around him until he was substituted. The whole crowd was on his back - I was in the Gene Kelly stand, and he looked totally, utterly devastated. I don't remember him starting a single game under Royle after that. He barely featured under Keegan (10 starts, 3 subs, before being released).

Mikkel Bischoff was another of Keegan's mystery wonder kids...
