Hallelujah! Someone else sees it. Haaland alone doesn't solve our problems. He can stand in the box all day and will get nothing from Sterling or Mahrez. Mahrez is in it for himself so if the cut inside and shoot isn't on he's no interest in setting somebody else up and just recycles it back into midfield.

Almost every attack down the left ends up coming to nothing as soon as Sterling gets involved. He either gets dispossessed or is crowded out by trying to dribble through four defenders . As a result our central attacker is starved of the ball, more so if Kdb has an off day. Jesus or Aguero then end up dropping deep which is what defenders are quite happy with. It would only be the same with Haaland. He'd become frustrated and drop deep looking for the ball. The wide players are the big problem and that leaves Kdb as the only creative source.

True. Yesterday though, that front 3 were a disgrace. They weren't alone.
After the ball was centred, after the whistle blew...

Very interesting that.
And funnily enough in the 3 games they beat us last season we were the better team in all of them but got beaten on the counter including the one just before lockdown in a team that included Phil and Bernardo.
He tries to rectify it and still gets slaughtered by some.

Might be an idea to try DeBruyne in the 'pivot', get an extra creator on the pitch.

Totally agree with you and I certainly don't think everything Pep did was right before my "shilacking" starts.
I'd never play Sterling against them for one- he appears to have a mental block about Wan Bissaka, scared stiff to take him on.

Mahrez rewarded for his last stinking performance.

If I was Foden or Bernardo Id put in a transfer.

Sterling is still a rough diamond for me. His pace is the biggest asset he has, but he shows flashes of brilliances. I say when he is 28 onwards he will be more of a player than he is now tbh. And yes v Scum or scousers forget it he faces defenders with specific instructions to keep his head down, keep him on the outside and rush him to expose his lack of technic. They would all have him BTW but he is not crafty enough. Kane has no pace but a knack you cannot coach same with Son and Ings clever players.

Thats all well and good in the big matches i could stomach it. But no need to do it against everyone so will be interesting to see if he does it against the mighty West Brom.

Also he tried the double pivot many times last season including lyon and spurs away and it worked in none of them. In fact id love someone to do some analysis on last seasons double pivot effort and im pretty sure we lost or struggled in most including the mighty norwich which we lost 3-2.

We won two leagues and every pot without a double pivot. If we had a top class number 6 like fern in his peak we wouldnt need two of them.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gundo and Silva played as 8s that day. This is a common mistake, when Gundogan starts with Rodri it has very rarely been a 'double pivot', Gundo is further up the pitch and Rodri sits.

And for all that we still would have won that day against the mighty Norwich other than the brainfarts of Otto and Stones.

Against lyon it was a double pivot. Gundo playing as an 8 isnt the true sense as an 8(like kdb/silva played)as he starts naturally deeper closer to 6 than an 8 as it suits his game. Id love to see his heat map from those games compared to silva and rodri to prove or disprove the above.

The Lyon game it was a double pivot. The Spurs game wasn't. My post was referring to the Norwich game.

We've used it very rarely, until recently, Gundo has been an 8, although not as advanced as Debruyne.

In 17/18 Debruyne didn't play as close to the box as Silva but they were both still 8s.

I agree with previous posts that Rodri is good but too slow and prevents us getting the ball forwards in time to be effective

Drop Rodri for a few games, put Laporte back and play Stones at number 5.
He's faster and better at feeding through the line
And if he does cock up he's further from the goal!

We’re playing 2 defensive midfielders because Fern is old and Rodri is not as good as Fern.

Fern was capable of playing the role by himself, which allowed us to play an extra attacker. Now our game is slower and we’ve lost any counter-attacking threat we used to have.

Rodri isn’t a bad player but he’s a big step down from Fern.

This trend started last season and is continuing. We’re ok to generally beat the weaker sides but we’re increasingly incapable of beating the top sides. We’ve played Leicester, Liverpool, Spurs and United this season and failed to beat any of them. Liverpool, Spurs and United particularly were there for the taking and we blew it.
