Huge rise in cases in the UK so other clubs will undoubtedly get it and have to postpone. The rest of the winters fixtures could be decimated.

Reading the BBC, it's says....

As for City, they will probably never know the precise reasons for the outbreak.

However, they did play Arsenal in the EFL Cup at Emirates Stadium on 22 December, by which time London had been put in Tier 4, and City have been told positive cases have subsequently been reported at the hotel they were staying in.

So possible there will now be an outbreak at Southampton, if our players had it 2 days ago?

It was the only option with so many testing positive. I could imagine the PL and broadcasters still wanted us to go ahead and play until they realised they could basically be done for spreading this shit or, at least had their special privilege of actually having the competition continue over multiple tier groups.

Hopefully those infected, and their family group, don’t come to any serious harm.

I am glad the game was called off. Not getting into a big health debate but fact is this a dangerous thing for some people.
I hope all those affected have a speedy and successful recovery.

Absolutely, people's well being before anything else.

If the reports about Everton demanding all the facts off the Prem, trying grab 3 points they should be ashamed of themselves.

A precedent was set when Newcastle had their match postponed earlier this month. No mention of forfeiting points, just rearranged for another date. No way can the PL change that now without some major shit flying round. I'm sure both the magpies and ourselves could have fielded half decent teams with who was "not positive" but if the positives were first team members or staff working with them then the "not positive" players could still be early stage carriers and therefore possible spreaders. Think that's why the protocol is to postpone and retest everyone.
