Oh, and these ESL games will have commercial times outs where a thrown in will have to wait for a 30 second slot .

Match fixing , name of the game in the ESL.

I've let this settle in my head in the past 24 hours. I'm disgusted by City's actions, but I'm also a realist and I've seen this ESL coming for years.

My first City game in 1991 was Sunderland away at Roker Park (Howard Kendels last game). My grandad was a Sunderland fan so the first game I attended at Maine Road was the correspondent fixture. They play at the stadium of light now. We play at the Etihad. We've both been purchased by foreign owners with extreme results of a different nature. I can't think of two other clubs that represent the change in the past 30 years as much as City and Sunderland.

The ESL is doing not a lot different from what the EPL did in the Football League in 1992. The EPL severely devalued everything underneath it.

The G14 and the weighing of the CL have within the top domestic leagues, created haves, and have nots. We were a have-not until we won the lottery.

The G14 relegated the Dutch, Scottish, Portuguese leagues into wastelands. Former European powers were reduced to feeding off the scraps surviving off selling their best players to teams a fraction of their size in England. I can assure you my friends who support SPL sides are loving the ESL and can't wait to see the middle-sized EPL sides burn to the ground with huge debts and a new shitty TV deal. Let's see how they like it.

Capitalism and greed are rampant in every aspect of our society cheered along by most even if it is to the detriment of themselves. Most working people can't afford to go to the games. If they have enough money, they can afford to get utterly ripped off by Sky so they can watch their team on TV. Despite this, the product has never been more popular.

From a business point of view. You can't look at the numbers available and say no. I don't like it, you don't like it. Tough shit. Nothing was done to stop the above. These owners know that despite the initial outrage in 2-3 years' time there is a growth market in the States and Asia that will love it and from previous examples know fine well that domestic supporters will eat shit and learn to like the taste of it. If we don't, you can look forward to Abu Dhabi City verse Boston Red Socks FC in 10 years' time.

As someone who saw it coming my only real horror is the closed shop. I've no interest in watching City if there is nothing to play for. I'd even enjoy a relegation struggle for old time's sake. A fan who supports Derby or Doncaster has as much right to dream about one day making it to the top as we did 20 years ago. Clubs who gamble and fail need to face the consequences just like Sunderland are. It's a red line for me.

I believe these current proposals will be watered down. It's a well-known tactic. You launch something that sounds terrible. Then water it down and make a few concessions whilst getting everything you really want, and everyone will buy into it.

Once they introduced some form of a pyramid, they will announce a fantastic the TV deal. It will be priced at under £10 a month for everything absolutely blowing Sky and BT out of the water. The spin will be the ordinary fan can afford it again.

Eventually, the outrage will die down. The rich can keep getting richer. Fuck the rest of them. Same as it ever was.

is there any clarification yet as to whether the PL has the power to block them from competing in it? I'd imagine the ESL legal people would have had all their ducks in a row before the announcement.

From what I understand, it's still unclear. UEFA could ban PL teams from playing in UEFA competitions if the PL allows the teams to continue in the league while playing in the ESL, though. And teams can be expelled from the Premier/Football League. It's just a question of what will break and where.

SHAME and eternal SHAME ; nothing but SHAME!

I feel a level of dismay bordering upon disgust. I truly thought the owners of OUR club were
better than this . It's pretty obvious they have dismissed the sentiments and mindset of the fans
as irrelevant - if they have considered them at all, that is.
Now, they have played their hand, now they have shown their true colours.
This decision doesn't merely soil the name of OUR club - it reduces OUR clubs dignity to
the level of French women who slept with Wehrmacht officers in WW2. This is a darker day
than getting knocked out of the F.A.Cup by Halifax.

Having sold ourselves to this sordid cabal of gangsters - do our owners HONESTLY think
we , CITY , will EVER be given a fair chance to WIN - or even compete fairly , in this
proposed grotesque charade ? We will be perennial whipping-boys - no doubt , having seduced us
into their tentacles, the cabal will devise whatever financial "rules" they see appropriate
to guarantee their monopoly of this "competition" (. . . along with purchasing the
services of the necessary officials, of course).I cannot believe our owners were STUPID
enough to sign up to this.

I thought this all over some months ago ; there's no way I'd want us involved in a closed
shop "competition" which completely contravenes the spirit and ethos of the game which has
evolved over the last 100+ years. The game that allowed Forest to become European Champions
a couple of years after being in the 2nd Division, that allowed Blackburn to become champions
of England after decades of anonymity. I want to play in a genuine and honest competition,
in which 5 or 6 teams have a real chance of winning , and those 5 or 6 change over time.
I'd honestly be bored by the soul-less monotony of winning every single year ; if Bayern or
Real fans think it gives some meaning to their lives . . .well that's their problem.

@CTID - Sorry, mate , but it looks like the club beat you to it.

Pretty damn rich of the Premier League to preach about "integrity" in their statement.

EDIT: in my opinion...
It's to do with whether the PL will sanction PL team involvement - which would mean making scheduling allowances and changes to accomodate it. If they say no, it effectively blocks PL team participation in the super league.

So if the PL position remains the same then the ESL is basically a direct replacement for the CL. The new format of the CL is a travesty and I'd have even less enthusiasm for it than I do presently.

Still there, slipped onto page 2. The club, like the other 5 English clubs, are saying nothing and hoping the uproar disappears.

Simple solution to this Super League, media companies Sky and many others do not enter into contracts . Keep showing what they do now, or no one and I mean no one signs up to subscribe to viewing. No money no super league.
I would say the only downer is that UEFA survives , but sometimes it’s better the devil you know than the one you don’t!!
YOU DON'T PICK CITY , CITY PICKS YOU AND WHEN IT HAS!! NO MATTER HOW BAD IT GETS NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU SAY THATS IT NO MORE NO SEASON TICKET IF YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BY THE BLUE MIST THE ONLY TIME YOU STOP BEING BLUE IS WHEN YOU DIE!!
IF YOU ARE LUCKY IN YOUR ERA OF BEING BLUE YOU WILL SEE SUCESS IF NOT HEARTBREAK EITHER WAY YOU WILL BE BLUE. ITS JUST THE WAY IT IS!!!!

CITY TILL I DIE !!!

What does my head in is the way they communicated this, all of them.

How can the best clubs in the world would have a PR strategy as shit as this one is beyond me. Post some shit, then go into the cave, no reply, nothing, no explanation.

I swear, imagine a PR Conference with all of them explaining point by point the reasons behind this, exposing UEFA and FIFA and offering details about this Super League and how is the future of football (or how they see it this way).

Seems CL matches will go ahead as planned next week. Shame, I was hoping we'd be kicked out.

Frankly, I hope PSG smash us and that we don't reach the final. The club doesn't deserve it.

And it's hard to believe I'm writing that and meaning it. It's all so sad.
