It's interesting that with their own league, they could create entirely their own rules too. They could literally be playing an entirely different game to everybody else.

This is something I thought about too: the increase in sub numbers due to Covid might have made people think "more subs = more players featuring in a game + possibility to get an extra year or two out of megastars who can't last 90 minutes", which would be a huge boost for a closed-door competition.

With all the backlash there has been since Sunday, one would assume if there is to be a change of heart or plan regarding the ESL then it would be announced fairly soon.

Watched Pep’s responses again and to me he knew about this and was consulted, but he wants more information to be put out about it and it’s pissed him off everything has been so vague.

Phew , Lot's of pages on this so far. Not sure if it has been covered yet but surely all contracts with players will have to be renegotiated ?

Contracts were made on the basis of given targets , goals etc bonuses . None certainly included a new ESL . All existing competitions are well known and active for decades.

Nah . Pep went out of his way to explain he hadn’t got a clue what the actual proposals are , the same with Klopp last night . Listening to the absolute bullshit Madrid,s Perez is coming out with I believe pep 100 % . MCFC admin have managed to get a message out today and we are the first English 6 club to do so .

You really think Pep would have taken this so well if he’d only been told an hour before the statement got released? This is Pep. He’s probably the most important employee for CFG. If they did only tell him an hour before, he’s got every right to walk away. But he won’t, because he was told ages ago.

It would appear the respective owners of the clubs know the price of everything and the value of nothing

I wonder whether they have seriously misjudged the reaction that has occurred. They would have expected a certain level of opposition and apathy even, but I would hazard a guess that privately they are very shocked at the backlash. Whether it is sufficient enough for a club to pull out we shall see.

Pep said he was told about the announcement 2 hours before it was released on Sunday night , Klopp said exactly the same . Pep pleaded with owners and league to release more details ( clarification) today . Pep clearly made his opposition to the idea clear what more do you want ?

I believed him when he said he went to Bayern because he wouldn't talk to City as they already had a manager (Mancini). So if he says he was told about this three hours before the statement was released I believe him again. He has a track record of honesty.

Interesting

I wonder if contracts split domestic and European competitions? Or whether basically they are paid a wage regardless of the competition? The club may well simply say the ESL has effectively replaced the CL and if we remain in the PL then the contract remains the same.
Image rights however will be a different matter entirely especially if players dont get exposure in FIFA games for example

Of course an individual player may use this situation to secure a better deal for himself. That's then up to the player and club to agree/disagree. Makes you wonder how much agents such as Raiola knew about it with him pricing Haaland the way he has just lately. Figures of 500k a week were judged fantasy pie in the sky last week. Now it emerges that the founder clubs will be given huge start up sums just to participate, maybe a club will pay that.

Pep clearly wanted to say more today but wasn’t allowed to by the club who cut his presser short . The message got out though job done .

Track record of honesty?! He literally says he’s “so so so happy” after ever my loss. Do you think he’s happy? He’s said Kolarov was one of the best defenders he’s coached. He’s come out with some absolute bollocks in his time.

He’s essentially said that the club don’t really value him or his opinion if he’s saying openly he only got told a few hours before. Which makes the club look really awful (even more so). He didn’t have to say that and he’s covering his back imo.
