Welcome..... absolutely no one

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Welcome..... absolutely no one

Postby Niall Quinns Discopants » Tue Jul 06, 2021 4:25 pm

Well apparently Pep has gone on some Catalan network saying all these top strikers are too expensive and we are skint.

Honestly, I believe him. From the get go owners said that the aim is to make us sustainable on our own and it seems we have moved to that phase. Earn what you spend that is. We have never gone even close to British transfer record and I don't think any of our top transfers are included in top 20 most expensive transfers in the world.

So I think people should stop recycling the bollocks about Kane and Mbappe and Haaland and then just end up disappointed. I do think we still have money to shop around in that second category of around 40M to 60M though. But stop dreaming about these bank breakimg transfers.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Not true. I got an email yesterday telling me we has signed some chica from Farca. Don't know if shw can play upfront. I'm guessing she would fare better at left back than Mendy though

Are we one up yet?

Piss aside, are we stockpiling players? Read that we signed or about to sign another Brazilian and send him to Troyes. Since the takeover we signed a shit load of kids, from Dennis Suarez, to Bernabe, etc, but it seems that except Angie and Garcia, we failed to promote any of them.
Read a while back that we managed to sign many of the best players at their age and our EDS squads, and correct me if I am wrong, Impressed.

Well I suppose that's the plan. Buy low, sell high.

I'm not mad or anything. I just don't think people should kid themselves into thinking we are seriously in for thwse world stars.

Exactly
And I don't believe for one second that we actually have officially bid the £100M for Kane

I think we will go to 100m for kane but not any more and itt wont be enough. Getting the england captain possibly on back of winning euros in a position we are desperate for makes sense. The outlay will be offset by sancho clause, jack harrison, herrera etc.

If we dont sign him it could be ings/ issak type of signing and im ok with that too.

So I agree with nqdp but i dont think kane falls into that bracket as unattainable due to the side benefits.

Of course we haven't. Anyway, these out of the blue official bids are mostly tabloid fiction and for the fans. Maybe sometimes these happen with some lower level players certain club is sure to get. And sometimes might happen late in the transfer window with players who are more or less surplus at the selling club and may have even been offered before.

But major transfers usually take loads of time and start off with feelers by all three parties (it's rare that player wouldn't be involved). I'm sure Txiki could've called Paratici and it could've gone something along the lines.
"Yo, yo, yo Fabs, welcome to the terrordome that is Premier League."
"Whassup T-Dog! Yeah, the food is terrible and birds are so and so but you know when missus found those knickers in our bed room I had to leave Turin."
"Anyways, I was calling about your boy Harry K. What's the deal there? I heard that he might be up for change of scenery"
"Yeah, had a quick chat with his agent. Bit overrated if you ask me but the big boys upstairs like him so what do I know, eh"
"So what are we looking at here? I mean if we were to throw 80m your way and G-sus on top of that would you be game?"
"Is that the small Brazilian geezer who fights for every ball but can't finish for shit? I'd def be game but you know Danny L said that we need at least 120m for this guy and then some wack add ons you'll never reach to make it look like 150m deal to appease the fans"
"Cool cool.... The petro boys said that we can't spend that sort of moolah so it's a no go but if you fancy a night out next time we play then holla"

Quee Mirror headlines of official bid.

And yes, after the takeover some people with very little football experience came in and made these big out of nowhere bids and people within the industry were pretty confused. Like Kaka and Robinho deals. But we learned how the industry works. I actually know a situation where City was interested of one youngster and they are VERY discreet and quiet apparently. And this was just a youngster who ended up signing to other Academy. To think that we'd be randomly making official bids is nothing short of ridiculous. These official bids can be rejected by board of directors but when official bid is tabled everything has been sorted between clubs operating officers and the player, rest assured.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I wouldn't be too worried about what Pep says in the media, he is good at the old smoke and daggers routine.

It is odd though that they told Sergio Aguero that they were bringing in another top striker for next season. Or maybe they were lying to him.

Me too Mase, this couldn’t possibly be anything to do with not wanting to pay the asking price for Kane

I find his media talk, in many cases, just odd.
No mind games, just ”ask Txixi”, ”I don't know maybe yes, maybe no".

Based on 'reliable' reports over the past 9 months:

1. Grealish is a certainty. As an aside, seemingly Grealish himself is telling anyone who will listen in the England camp that he will be playing for City this season.
2. So is a top striker. Take your pick but most likely Kane. Because Kane Vs. Levy is like a deadly embrace for both of them and the only way to break it, without serious damage for both of them, is for Levy to let Kane leave.

I thought we’d bid £100m for Kane already and had it refused. So we’re clear not skint. The transfer excitement level on the other forum is high, apparently our business is pretty much done and Tixi felt so relaxed he’s even been on holiday. Villa look like they are signed Grielish replacements & Kane won’t talk until England are out later tonight

When have we ever bid for a player that Sky Sports had the breaking news on? Never. I for one don’t believe it was a legitimate, honest, official bid from the club. NQDPs summary earlier on, though obviously tongue in cheek, was probably not a million miles from the truth

Rehashed quotes from around the time Haaland was being paraded about by Raiola.

Agree with Sheblue, always take what Pep says to the media with a pinch of salt.

Apparently Grealish has had "change of heart". I think the number was too high for us.
