Odd Tale of Joe Hart

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I absolutely loved Joe Hart, just like most other players of that era. Part of the team that took our first trophy in years before going onto dismantled the Rags and shove it right down their throats. I still think the same of him and was gutted to see his decline but his purported actions following the PL winning season, especially those prior to the FA Cup final, will always leave me disappointed. We know that Vinnie wasn’t happy with Mancini but at least he didn’t go to the press, undermining everything we were trying to achieve.

For me, he got too big for his boots and Pep used him as a way to assert his authority by getting rid of one of those who had too much control.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

Good question NQDP and great to see your orange colour back on here.

I think once he got found out, his confidence would have dipped. It would have no doubt spiraled from there.

Likewise Darren!
Found out how though? He was always old school keeper, good at shot stopping, bad with ball on his feet. He was never going to suit Pep but there are still starting keepers of same mould starting in the league. Though admittedly not for long as goalkeeper training has changed dramatically over the past decade or so at youth level.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I wonder what sort of impact the goal Bale scored against him in the Euros had. I remember at the time he was doing well but then all of a sudden the perception was he was easy to beat down to the left. Didn't he let another one in fairly easy soon after?

It was a fairly high profile fuck up, and these things must linger and have an effect. Does anybody remember David Sommeil? He was looking like a decent centre back until that game v Leeds in 2004 and his career basically fell to oieces after that. The same with Darius Vassell. He was flying then cocked up an easy one-on-one v the keeper and he was never the same again.

These things must weigh heavy.

Low and left. It would be drummed in his ears. He would go to bed at night thinking about it. Opposition players would rib him about it. Got a chink in your armour and people go hardcore.

The low the left thing seems to have gained steam well after it was an issue, but his kicking was awful week in week out and there was no hiding that.

Had a hell of a few seasons, but ultimately like a lot of English players didn’t live up the hype or failed to keep

Linked with Celtic. He’d do well up there and could rebuild his rep.

I never thought he was overrated when he played for us!! He was good keeper for us for years. Not the absolute world super elite which was needed at the time going forward but certainly not the utter garbage he is now. Not even close.

I think his kicking was great. He passed to me in East stand more than any other player on the pitch! :D

Signing for Celtic apparently. The Celtic-City connection gets stronger and stronger.

The keeper they have is awful so it's a no-brainer for them.

Only for fucking Celtic fuck all in it for us. Long line of loan signings and catalogue term payments and with this connection, we still let one of the only decent signings Tierney evade us? Still, they're welcome to billy big bollocks Hart up there

We also missed VVD despite playing one season alongside Denayer and then one with Boyota.

We didn’t miss him, we were in for him initially but was put off by his price tag. I don’t think he did enough at Celtic to warrant us buying him - hence Southampton were the only club interested in him at the time.

Celtic is pretty good place to send certain level players on loan. Their infrastucture is excellent, their set up professional and players get to play in front of massive crowds and get used to pressure. To say is there's nothing for us there simply isn't true.

Judging by some of the former players that have appeared on podcasts recently, I’d say Celtic’s set up isn’t that professional. Plus theyll be playing against League 1 level competition.

He went to Southampton for £13m and was sold for £80m two seasons later. It was clear as day he was miles better than Denayer and Boyota. We also went in for him when he was at Southampton but were priced out of the move then too.

We fucked up big style.

Celtic have a very good setup. They should do as we help them out. Their director's son is Head of CFG Scouting and Recruitment at City. We picked their manager when Howe shat it at the last minute.

At the youth level, they are pretty decent but like most clubs lose a lot of their younger talent in later stages of their development to bigger clubs. I know we've hand-picked a few. There's a lad that ended up at Bayern as well. Outwith Foden, we haven't produced a player better than Tierney. Can't be that bad.
