Question: how was Mendy? Really not sure how I feel about going into yet another season without an out and out proper fucking leftback. I just feel Mendy doesn't have the body to be that guy, certainly not at the level we need to win UCL/retain PL. Zinchenko cannot do it alone.

Mendy was Mendy I'm afraid is the answer. Got caught on the break a couple of times when Barnsley did "muster" a threat and did not look arsed at getting back in to position too quickly. Mahrez's goal came from a cross by him but I would say that it was more down to Mahrez's superb technique that he took the goal rather than the quality of the ball in to him. Looks clumsy and has been said before it can't all be about the injuries that he has received - his attitude towards actually producing something positive on the pitch has always flattered to deceive.

Baldie was going more bald on the sidelines watching this cunt play - had a right go at him over his positioning (I think )

Funny you say that, I listened to a bit of the commentary and they noted how Mendy was tucking in central like Zinch, Cancelo and Walker often do. Shame he's a fucking donkey. Really sounds like he doesn't have the tactical nouse or close ball control/passing to deal with Peps system. Square peg in a round hole, a peg that seems to have lost almost all the appealing physical attributes that would help him excel at romping down the flanks. That Monaco Mendy is nothing more than a myth at this stage, but if what BiB says is true, he doesn't even have the cross on him.

Can we have Kolarov back? At least he offered something with that Howitzer of a left foot.

He was indeed trying to play the inverted full-back position and you can imagine he had all the finesse of a dog chasing it's own tail! The cross which was played in for Mahrez's goal was not the usual overhit bomb but even more of a hit and hope which just gently fell in to Mahrez's path. As stated before, Mahrez still had a lot to do to even produce a shot on target, let alone score.
