I honestly don't think he realised he'd been hit until he put his foot down which is why he then turns to the ref. Similar to the video of the UFC fighter who breaks his leg kicking his opponent and tries to stand on the broken leg. Pain isn't always felt instantly.

Was playing football when one of the lads received a crunching tackle. He carried on for 2 or 3 yards and then tried to sprint again, at which point he hit the floor with a hell of a scream. Turned out he’d snapped either his tibia or fibula in the tackle but just thought it was painful and his mind just wanted to play on. Then, when he went to sprint the break caused excess strain on the other bone which then also snapped leaving him in traction for the next 6 months.

Not nice.
