What are we lacking?

Postby PeterParker » Sat Oct 30, 2021 4:19 pm

It's obvious a striker and a left-back, but in our game?
Multiple times it looks like we are a team that can't come back in difficult moments.

A ‘Plan B’. We haven’t had one for about 5 seasons, and when shite teams that whack 12 behind the ball and counter us come to the Etihad we have no answer for it.

The same as we were when we smashed brugge and brighton. Where was this thread then?
For come-backs, see anfield recently. Sometimes we just have to take the medicine and move on..

We have no answer for the teams that just defend and counter us though mate, and we haven’t had an answer for some time. Southampton this season is another perfect example.

There’ll be a lot more times we just smash teams, but what about the occasions like today and Southampton where we can’t. What’s the answer then?

Is not about Brugge or Brighton, don't be daft, pal.
It's about some things that keep on coming to bite us in our game and how can we improve.

We all know we are fantastic when our game is working. What needs to be solved when it's the opposite.
For example, when Zaha scored I was close to certainty we are not going to win today, not because I lack believe, but because I know us and knew we will pass from side to side without creating chances.
This seems to repeat many times when we are down.

I hear what you are saying and don't have an answer to the Plan B that's on Pep aa much as us winning playing his way is also on him. Put this in the other thread but his reluctance to get a striker in is part of the issue as it forces him to change his style and i doubt he will. We will undoubtedly see more of the same, next week could be another shocker if we don't sort it out

Set pieces is another aspect that worries me.
Corners are the worst I've seen in my time since I started watching English football.
I can't understand how players at their level can't take a proper cross.

Again, this is on Pep. We all know that his philosophy is to keep the ball. This bites us on the arse when we have corners and I doubt it is something that we spend a lot of time working on

it is still too early to worry. If there is anything positive today it is that a good battling team like Brighton can come back at scouse.

Will give others something to think about.

Also Afcon will hit them negatively and us positively , coz Mahrez will be unavailable .

We need to consolidate before christmas .

Agree, but do you need Pep to put a cross in?

It’s a difficult one as we’re doing pretty well. We were bossing the game, even if looking a yard short and I thought that Palace couldn’t hold out for 90 minutes with the wave of attacks. The game changer was the sending off and considering we were a man down we still bossed the game apart from where it counts. However, you have to credit Palace for their copy and paste defensive strategy and try to get us on the break or try to get a player in the glare of the ref. The ref certainly obliged and without going into too much detail I thought his mannerisms gave away what he had been directed to do.

On a further note, it’s noticeable to all how some of our previous star players form has dropped off a cliff and it’s hard to point to why it’s happened. Is it a bit of burn-out, recent injuries or just one of those things. I ain’t got a clue but there’s certainly issues with a few players.

Why do you think that?
Close to the end of the half, knowing us, were you confident we will come back? Based on our record with Pep when we are behind?

Yep for me from minute two or three where there were multiple unnecessary miss placed passes I got that feeling. The decision-making from all of the defenders was shocking all game.

How Walker was not tasked with covering the last man I’ll never know. I think we were too cocky. His final contribution for the second goal was some of the worst defending I think I have ever seen just running away from his man and going in goal.

Laporte and Dias got bullied all game and cancelo continuously smashed the ball back to their keeper.

Are you really asking why people are questioning what went wrong after a defeat?

Went to the game and I’m struggling to think of a single City player who played well. Particularly shocked by Cancelo’s performance. Time for Zinchenko to have a go? Bernardo at least ran his socks off but to little effect. I couldn’t see who provided the pass for the offside goal but it was excellent and Jesus took it really well. Shame. Serious question. Should Kevin have the surgery and come back for the end of the season? Is his concern about his ankle ruining his confidence? I don’t know. Huge call of course. Back on Wednesday and expecting a reaction.

I'm not shocked by Cancelo's performance, he's absolutely dreadful. Moments, few and far between, he does something. The rest of the time is unbelievable dog shit. His powder puff tackling is his worst trait, slightly ahead of about 10 other bags of shit that he is crap at. Can't bear him.
