last year I talked to a dog trainer who has many footballer clients in the 'village' - his take is that many foreign stars get a pet because everybody else has one and are often completely unaware of the differences in the culture of animal ownership here to their own countries. One of ours just chained his new dog up outside the house - unused to the idea of a domestic relationship - pets i are often seen simply as must have trappings of wealth
