Midweek PL Game May 10/11/12

Postby Harry Dowd scored » Mon May 09, 2022 5:32 pm

Another massive week ahead, don’t expect any favours off slippy Steve’s Villa, worried about our defence with Dias, Walker and Stones out for season, is Ake also injured? Wolves don’t score many. Only Burnley, Watford and Norwich have scored less, however they did score two v Chelsea, still a tricky couple of away games ahead.

Tuesday

Villa v horrible dippers Sly 20.00

Wednesday

Dirty Leeds v Chelsea Sly 19.30

Leicester v Norwich 19.45

Watford v Everton 19.45

Wolves v Champions Sly 20.15

Thursday

I have some mates who are Wolves fans they have told me Wolves have fell off a cliff since getting close to the Europa qualifying places and the squad went on there holidays early . BUT they played a lot better recently and will be up for it on Wednesday !

Interesting take on tonight’s game by Martin Samuel - :

No chance Gerrard waves white flag

Without disrespecting Aston Villa, long term, Steven Gerrard probably wants the Liverpool job. Having played for them 710 times, he wouldn't be human if he didn't. This is why the idea that Villa will helpfully roll over to allow Liverpool an easy three points tonight is bunkum. Who would be impressed by that? Certainly not any future employer.

During his time with Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers was rated as one of the leading young coaches in Europe. In 2014, however, he left out his best players — including Gerrard — for a Champions League group fixture at Real Madrid. Liverpool only lost 1-0 but that was due to Madrid's wastefulness. They had 27 chances and nine shots on target. Rodgers' reputation, however, was the biggest loser.

Before the game, Madrid were considered a viable destination for an ambitious coach like him. No mention of it since, though, despite excellent returns at Celtic and Leicester. That was, in many ways, his audition. Had his Liverpool team gone there and won, or even put it up to Madrid, he would be remembered.

Steven Gerrard needs to show he can be a great Liverpool manager as well as a great ex-player

Assessments are ongoing. Mainz, as coached by Jurgen Klopp, played Borussia Dortmund six times during his time there: W1 D4 L1, despite Dortmund being much the bigger team. Do you not think that made a difference when they were seeking a new manager?

If being a great Liverpool player was all that mattered, Kenny Dalglish would still be in charge. Gerrard needs more. He needs to show he can be a great Liverpool manager, too. An impressive start would be to beat them in a match that really counted. And Gerrard knows this. He may not win tonight, but he cannot afford an obligingly meek surrender; not for the present, or the future.

Not a prayer that Villa lay a glove on them tonight. My expectation is that we will be behind their goal difference before we play tomorrow any less is a bonus

My thoughts exactly
Watch their intensity tonight versus when they play us last game of the season.

not a chance of that happening, the dippers are finished now and for the foreseeable ... one bad result was all it took for them to fall apart - the Chavs & Spaniards will humiliate them. (this post contains a measure of conjecture  )

If they don't get blown away in the first 10 to 20 minutes and I think it could be a good game.

Klopp has a huge dilemma tonight which strangely none of the media have touched upon ……
FA cup final on Saturday, tonight is Klopp,s last throw of the dice to stay in contention for the PL title so does he go full strength or rest players for the FA cup final in a few days time ? The bin dippers whole season could unravel tonight if things go badly !

No dilemma, pal.
They have friendlies with Villa and Soton, they could play karius and still get away with it.
Win tomorrow, all that it counts.

They can get fucked from my point of view.

I posted similar to this on Newcastle match thread, genuine dilemma for the old sour kraut, does he rest players for cup final or go balls out for the three points, be interesting to see his line up tonight

Doesn’t make any sense, all these players are on win/£s per point bonuses, so Villa players like dippers that much they throw money down the drain, don’t buy it

Same on the Newcastle thread OP

I think that 5-0 and the swing in GD may mean he rests a few. Can't see him playing his best XI with the cup final in a few days, coming so soon after the Spurs game. It will however probably still be enough to win the match. But you never know. I've a sneaky suspicion Villa might get a point. I don't subscribe to the notion Gerrard will throw the game and think he is professional enough and have the hunger to prove himself against the best teams

or Shit Shit.

i agree with the martin samuel point, Slippy will have more of an interest in making a mark on his job potential.
Self interest trumps any allegiance, however strong it is.

wont make much diff though unlless Villa hold out till 2nd half - which they wont.

Klopp is resting players tonight.
Not that it will affect the result, the media tell us the squad is so good that they are all interchangeable with no degradation in performance.
Failing that there is Stevie G and failing that there is VAR.

The only question tonight is how many will Liverpool be allowed score to rectify that GD back in their favor?
