He's 29, not exactly spring spring chicken

However, i can see why the people upstairs might see some sense and logic in this….

Whoever it is will be playing second fiddle to Rodri which rules out any top drawer players. I. e. for example we won't be signing Rice for the money they'll want and he won't want to spend half the season on the bench.

Barcelona are targeting Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva this summer
The Catalan giants could offer a swap deal including Frenkie de Jong in return
The 27-year-old has chipped in with 11 goals and five assists so far this season

But as you say, he has pulled his tripes out for us and he owes us nothing. He does love the club and the fans, though.

Hope he stays.
But in terms of owing us nothing, that’s not strictly true. He is a top player and as such would command a hefty transfer fee. If he has as I understand one year left on his contract, then if he doesn’t commit to a new contract this summer, then as a club it would be very poor management to not entertain selling him whilst we still can get a decent fee for him. The lad De Jong is an astute player and is young and I’m sure we coveted him a couple of years ago if I recall. So if a swap deal is on the cards this summer and IF Bernie isn’t going to commit to staying longer, than I think this has traction

Bern has until 2025 on his contract mate. If he wants to go now is the summer we’ll get the most for him.

Nobody is irreplaceable
We thought that about Kompany, Toure, Silva, Aguero.
And we have continued to win trophies
He is a damn fine player, of that there is no question. But when he leaves, (hopefully in a good few years yet by the way), we will find a replacement
