Next Season - Expectations

Postby Harry Dowd scored » Sun May 29, 2022 7:35 pm

I know the dust hasn’t settled on this season, but a few things about next season are shall we say intriguing. With the introduction of Haaland, Alvarez and possibly left back and DM, there is a possibility that our style of play may be adjusted. The other issue is the World Cup in Qatar.
My understanding is there will be a break in the PL mid November until post Boxing Day. The season starts August 6 until May 28, so there will be quite a few midweek fixtures, add to that the CL and cup competitions and it is going to be quite congested fixture wise. Stating the obvious depth of squad is going to be a major concern for all clubs chasing trophies. The defence concern me more than any other area. We have seen recently how exposed lack of cover in that department leaves the team so vulnerable. On paper we would appear fine, however, Stones , Ake and Laporte seem to miss games through injury. For me we need to recruit and/or promote younger players to senior level.
Other teams will also face this problem, the team that addresses these challenges in the most efficient way will be the most successful, with some clever recruitment I believe that team will be City. All in all a very interesting season lies ahead.

Always want to win the prem and if we improve the squad we should be expecting to go for that.

At some stage we need to win the CL to shut everyone up. May as well do that too :)
Tracking back is overrated.

I expect us to have another serious tilt at all 4. Only worry is the world cup disrupting things and about 90% of our squad being knackered.

Portugal v England in the final would be a nightmare for us!

Maybe those promising youngsters will get the chance to shine by default

It's going to be a nightmare season thanks to Blatter and his cronies doing a mid season world cup.

Expectations means = a strong belief that something will happen or be the case. it has nothing to do with being self entitled

Expectations opposed aspirations or hopes?

Expectations (mine): to compete on all levels again with dignity.

For the team to aspire to entertain us whilst competing on all fronts whilst aiming to do better than this season.

Hopes (mine), to arse rape at least twice each, Murderers, Spuds (we're fecking owed that) , Rags , Chelsea, actually fuck it...... balls in..... not to lose or draw a game all season, breaking every record in the book.

For Tickles "finishing 22/23" thread not get past one page.

CFTG & Pep to kiss and make up.

Less injuries so that squad rotation is a choice rather than forced.

This will be quite an issue. A lot of things can happen during that one-month break, including injuries.

Absolutely, this fucking mad world cup, who knows how the players will come back from that shite. Because of that nonsense next season, particularly the second half of the season will be a mess.
It wont be a normal season, which ends hectic enough as is, so who knows what will happen. Very difficult to plan for it.

I think we will have also a fucked schedule if we go for the quadruple? About three games per week or so?

Knowing Pep's attention to detail, he'll have a plan for the 2nd half of next season already.

At least Haaland will get a months rest whilst it’s going on.

Players like Walker and Stones need to have a think about who pays their wages. Stones started 12 Prem games this season - pathetic! If he’s injured at the start of next season and then goes away for a month and starts every England match we need to have a long think about fuckin him off. Walker is at the age now where he’s getting injuries and needs to think about having a rest instead of going away with some no marks.
